Itchy Feet

I have a 16 month old little boy and for the past few days his feet have seemed a little irritated. On the bottoms of his feet (no where else on his body) I have noticed small blotches all over and he keeps rubbing his feet on the carpet. His feet seem like they are itching him. I am not sure what this is from or how to treat it. I called the doctor but haven't heard back from him yet. I was just wondering if anyone has some advice on what I can do to help relieve the itching.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My doctor said to give him some benadryl and it seems to be helping. I don't think it is hand, foot, mouth disease because he doesn't have any other symptoms. He was sick two weeks ago with an ear infection and just finished his prescription of antibiotics. Thanks for all the great advice!!!

Try GOLD BOND powder and you might see if the fabric or fabric blend of the socks or type of sock makes any difference.

Lastly, maybe he's "allergic" to the laundry soap, fab softner, etc. Eliminate different things and see what happens.

It could be from a variety of things. I would use benedryl ointment to help releave the itching. His feet may sweat a lot/or not be sweating enough and it can cause the bumps and the itching.

Does he have any spots or sores inside or around his mouth? Or a fever? It sounds like hand foot and mouth disease to me. Just google it and you'll find lots of pictures. It's a virus, so the dr won't prescribe anything. Try Hydricortisone (sp?) or maybe Benadryl for the itching. Ask your doctor when he/she calls back

My son had athlete's foot a couple times as a little guy. He was on a low dose of antibiotics for ear infections (which must have messed up his natural resistance) and wearing footie pajamas. Once we figured out what was going on, it was easy; we treated his feet with foot fungus medicine morning and after bath, and cut the feet out of his jammies. The athlete's foot never came back after that.

Probably not what is going on in your case, since it's summer and barefoot season, but thought I'd toss it out there.

Sounds like athlete's foot...funny for such a little guy, but possible.

Try one of the over-the-counter treatments for this...and try store brands...they are cheaper and work just as well.

Try some Basic H2 on it. It stops bug bites and poison ivy from itching. It is also safe for your children and family. And,if you do not like it, you can send it back and get a refund.

I am not sure what the blotches are, but I think that will help them stop itching.

My son is 15 1/2 months old :)

I recommend Aveeno cream, it has oatmeal and all the natural itch-relievers, as well as a little bit of hydrocortisone cream.

Hello, I just wondered if your little one has been outside barefoot or in sandals. He could be allergic to grass! Keep it in mind just in case. Good luck, Shannon G.

I have never seen the hand foot and mouth disease, but for itching you might try oatmeal, or calamine lotion. Make a thick oatmeal and put on his feet. You might have to do this while he is sleeping or in his high chair while he is eating some.

could be hand foot and mouth disese... it's not fun but i don't think it's very serious... they get over it in a week or so...

baking soda is helpful for itching. just make a paste out of it and rub it on. maybe put some socks over his feet to keep the baking soda from getting everywhere...
