Itching Eyes

Hi guys: Well, I have a problem that I don't know how to solve. I have itchy red swollen skin around the area of my eyes. It's worse when I get up in the morning. I have tried everything, including going to the dermatologist who gave me steroids and a very expensive cream and neither one of them worked.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did to correct it. I would also like to know what any of you would recommend to clean my face and eye area with. I am at my wits end and am one red itchy mess. Thank you all so much. Love you guys, M.

I had very dry itchy patches under my eyes at one time that wouldn't go away. I tried a different mascara and that didn't help, so I tried a different brand of base makeup and it went away and never came back. I was told that you can develop allergies to things that never bothered you before. The brand I was using was hypoallergenic, and the consultant said there is no way that it could be that, but it was. I have been using Clinique ever since with no problems and I only use Cetaphil cleanser to wash my face.

I had a friend who had this problem. It turned out she was allergic to her nail products! When she applied makeup, that exposure was enough.

Hi M., I worked at a cosmetic counter so my first thoughts would be to throw out any make-up you are using around your eyes. Also, if you DO use make-up, brushes carry tons of fungus so I would throw them out as well. If you don't wear make-up, the one thing I have heard of that has caused similar reactions was sunscreen.
Finally, I agree with the response that said to visit an allergist and/or an opthamologist.
Good Luck!!!

I totally agree with Mimi H - she took the words right out of my mouth. What you're putting in your body is more important when you're looking for a cause. Externals like toxic substances in your laundry detergent can cause reactions but only if the immune system is on overload. Yes the FDA and EPA allow the major brands to put them there in "trace" amounts that add up over a day in ALL the products we use in our homes and on our bodies. So you have a multi-faceted problem that your doctor will never "guess." And if you use all the advertised off-the-shelf products, that's exactly what's wrong. I've found a solution for that also. I use and sell Shaklee products and have found our skin care to be very gentle even for people who are sensitive. For your particular issue I would recommend the Enfuselle Calming Complex. Every product is money back guarantee so you have nothing to loose. I think you would love they way these products gently cleanse and sooth your skin. Let me know if you have any questions. You can look at it on my web site you can search for just this product so you don't have to look through everything else if you don't want to. I pray you find something that gives you relief!

To your health!

M.,
Have you been to the allergist? My allergies affect my eyes.

About the face washing, try Cetaphil or Wal-Mart's Equate version. It is gentle and does not sting your eyes. I use it to take off makeup, and my niece uses it for acne problems.

HI M.,

This has nothing to do with your eyes. (I used to wake up with my eyes glued shut it... my husband would have to bring me a warm compress for them just to get to the bathroom in the morning.)

This is your immune system screaming for help. You are having an "outside" reaction to an "internal" problem. Allergies is what most people call it...Allergies are just a side effect of your immune system at a low point. My "allergies" are completely gone now and no more itchy eyes or even worse..itchy ears.... :)

A good absorbable multivitamin/mineral complex that does not create free radicals (most do so if you don't know of one, ask me), a detox of the home and your body, and for the short term, a teaspoon of LOCAL honey every morning until the symptoms go away. Chiropractic helps the immune system as well if you can find a good one that understands the immune system. I can recommend one of those as well...

This is really a cheap and easy fix and so many more things in your life will be better/fixed as well. I hope I helped!

God bless,

M.

I would guess an allergy of some type. There are a few herbs to try and remedy the situation. Let me know if you want more info. To remove makeup all I use is some organic unrefined coconut oil or olive oil. Works beautifully with no chemicals whatsoever. What are you using now? Maybe that is your problem?
Steriod creams are NOT a solution and I definitely wouldn't use that on my eyes.
To cleanse your skin, I'd go for an organic castile soap. I use dr. Bronner's. You can't get much purer than that.

You know, the cause of the redness could be a lot of things. If the doctor gave you steroids, he/she thought allergy -- but to what? It could be anything from the cleanser you use to your fabric softener or detergent for laundry...

If it were me, I'd throw away my mascara and stop using all other eye make-up. Switch to a dye- and perfume-free laundry detergent and don't use fabric softener. Use Cetaphil or even baby soap for the time being (while you're trying to find the culprit). I found this, btw: http://www.articlesbase.com/skin-care-articles/what-is-th... In other words, remove all possible causes and then slowly (a week at a time or so) bring them back in to play one at a time so you can find what's causing the problem.

Or -- go back to the dermatologist. Let them know the steroids and cream didn't work and let them "stay on the case". Doctors are merely very well educated guessers. The more information they have, the easier it is to make a diagnosis and find a solution to our problems.

Good luck!!!

Try one of those allergy-barrier pillow covers or a new pillow. It could be an allergy to something in the bedding or dust mites... Good luck!

It sounds like maybe you need an allergist instead of a dermatologist. Might be worth a try. Good luck.

Do you have a dog or cat? They may be getting in your bed without you knowing it. Sounds like you are allergic to something - make sure you wash your pillowcase and sheets.
