Hello, I know this is a mom website but I kind of wanted to know opinions on people who are religious or even the ones who arent. The recent cease fire called between Israel and Hamas, is that bad? I mean, in a religious view, the bible says something about a peace treaty being signed with Israel and that determines when the end of times is TRULY near. I heard about the Israel thing today and got kind of scared. What are your thoughts?

What can I do next?

I don't know how a cease fire could be "bad". I don't care what is written about end of times - I don't think that we should be hoping for more fighting in order to justify a prediction or prophecy.

Just sayin...

My thoughts?

Did you ever hear "don't believe everything you read in the newspapers?" I think same with the bible.

Did you ever play the telephone game? Whisper a sentence and see how it changes as it goes around the table? How about re-writing something down over centuries?

Keep in mind some human wrote down even God's words...... and much is left up to interpretation. Maybe the end of days means end of life as we know it today. Peace would be that, wouldn't it? And that would be a good thing.

Try not to focus on fear. If you are a religious person then chances are you believe in an afterlife. In steady of worrying. Try to trust.

In response to a few of the answers below...God made a covenant with Israel back in the beginning of the Old Testament. God doesn't change and he does not break his promises. The larger "church" has been added to or adopted into God's promises, but we don't replace Israel or the Jews. And I don't know what Grandma is talking about, singing from the same hymnal? I don't know where she saw or heard that? I do agree though that peace in the middle east will be a long time coming, and that there will be many other signs and prophecies before Christ returns. Try not to worry--He cares for you.

The nation of Israel is not the "Israel" of the Bible.

Israel means the CHURCH.

I have a good friend who lives in Yehud, Israel, not far from Tel Aviv. I heard from her last night, and she said she could still hear bombs from her house. I know our media said the cease fire was being honored, but she said there was no cease fire yet (as of last night). She does believe there will be a cease fire, but that it won't last long. That seems to be the belief of most politicians as well.

As for being concerned about the end of times, no, I'm not worried. I live my life the way I think God wants me to, and refuse to live in fear.

According to the Bible the world is not going to end until we are all singing from the same hymnal... and we seem to be FAR from that right now.

The recent cease fire is not too troubling. But trouble is coming.
The gathering of nations against Isreal is obvious..and foretold.
It will get much worse than this skirmish with Hamas. There will be a great leader arise and create a false peace for 3 1/2 years. That is the Anti Christ.

I live in this world, also, but I am not scared. I am not saying times won't get tough. I am saying I have put my faith and trust, not in people or leaders but in Christ. I believe He loves me and died and rose again for me. He will
take me to Heaven when my Father is ready for me. Seek the Prince of Peace diligently.

There is no peace between the two, so I don't think they will be signing a peace treaty. The way I understand it is that Egypt and the US agreed that Israel and Hamas would have a cease fire. Those two are not able to come to this themselves so the mediators stepped in.

I think what your religion is looking for is true peace in the middle east - which is a long way off IMO.

Biblically speaking...what are the end of times? Where in the NT, under the new covenant do you find any verses that Israel (Jews) are God's choosen people? It is my belief that "believers" are God's choosen people and not Israel who has turned her back to Him. Don't allow yourself to be too worried. God is sovereign over all!
