Is This Pelvic Floor Pressure Normal?

Hello ladies,

I gave birth to my son vaginally on Sept. 14. I did have a slight tear, but things in that area seem to be healing up nicely. Now, I am experiencing a lot of pressure on my pelvic floor, however. I think this is due to the cold I had right after the delivery, it really seemed to push and stretch out that area every time I coughed! I called my doc and he said it's normal to experience this pelvic pressure, but I'm still worried. I've been doing Kegels as often as I think of it, but is there anything else you'd recommend? Have any of you felt this pressure? I feel 100% normal when I'm sitting, but when I stand for more than 5 minutes the pressure builds. Thanks for your help!

I had this too. Just think what your body has gone through.
You are only 12 days into the healing process. Give your body a chance to recover.
I don't remember how long it took, but I would give it more time.

Good luck and congrats on the new baby!

I had pelvic pains before, during and after my pregnancy. I had to sleep on the couch for about the last trimester and for a couple of days or weeks after I got home. I agree with other posters...give it some time, but if it persists talk with your dr. again.

I had pressure for weeks upon weeks --I'd really notice it when I'd take my dog on walks.

It too me forever to feel 'normal' again --3 months

It is early on, but I didn't experience this nor have I heard of it being normal and I work as a nurse in OB. I would insist on being seen by your doctor. That is his job after all and even if it is just for reassurance you should be seen. Good luck!

Yes, this is totally normal. I think it took me about 3 months to get back to feeling normal. I had a very long pushing phase of labor and it took some time for my muscles to recover. I would take it easy and discuss more with your doctor at your 6 week check, if you are still having issues.

I would have to say that yes, this can be normal. And especially after having a cold so soon after you had the baby. When you cough, you are straining and this can cause you to feel like that. Take care and I hope this helps to ease your mind some. And congrats on the baby.

Like the previous poster said, be patient and let your body heal. I wouldn't be worried about it 2 weeks postpartum. 6 weeks PP is a different story.
