Is This Correct for an Evaluation for Adhd

My 8 year old daughter has ADHD and I have begun the prosses for a school elvaluation. I contacted the special ed director and asked some questions. Such as, "How long will classroom evaluation be? Will she be evaluated in her reading classe?". My daughter is in a Title 1 reading class.
She told me that it would be for one time for 15 to 20 minutes in her homeroom. She would not be evaluated in her reading class.
I have done some research and almost everything says classroom evaluations should be done on 3 seperate ocassions.
I was just wondering (She excells in math) what if she is evaluated during math class and she gives it her all? Which she does. Her attentivness is 100% better in math than in reading, because she enjoys math.
Fifteen minutes on one occasion does not seem like enough time to decide if a child is in need of an IEP.
Anyone with any experiance with this....Please help.

What can I do next?

hello, you know your child more than anyone else, and if you feel that she is not doing so well in reading, and she hasn't for some time.

i would request an iep and put it in writing, the school has 60 school days to complete the iep evaluataion, i have a set of twins, and their adhd effects their reading, they to have low scores in reading.

a peace of mind for you to.

I totally agree with you. Your daughter could have a different diagnosis if she is observed in math class. Find out all the information you can about the evaluation process in your district. Make sure the school district is doing everything it can for your daughter. Educate yourself on the policies, procedures, and laws that are in place in PA. That way the school district will know that you will fight for the best education for your daughter. If her evaluations point to ADHD, you will have the knowledge to be the best advocate for your child.

My 6 year old daughter has been diagnosed with a mild case of ADHA but her pediatrician had her teachers evaluate her behavior in class for two full weeks! They filled our her evals. and I had one for home to fill out in a two week span. 15 mins. in one day is not enough. They need at least 3 seperate evals. Children with ADHA could peak at different times of the day. Is your child on medication? Our daughter is taking Vyvanse and it has worked miracles. Her grades have improved and her behavior has too! She still acts like a 6yr old, but she can focus and stay seated now. If your child is on medication she might not even need an IEP. Is she doing poorly in all of her subjects except math?

15 min is not enough time. What state are you in? That makes a difference because I know in Delaware kids with ADHD fall between the cracks. It can be hard to get services and if you don't know what you are doing you have to find someone who does. Just be careful because well meaning people try to help but sometimes they have no clue. I have a child with Autism and I accidentally met someone who is helping me who actually knows the law and how to get things done. Good luck!
