We are Jewish and while we seek diversity, we want to know that there is at least some Jewish Population in Jenkintown. Are their Jewish children attending school within the Jenkintown distrcit? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I grew up in Abington, I've taught in Cheltenham SD (Elkins Park), and I live in Upper Dublin. There is a decent Jewish population in all those areas.

You may want to contact some of the local synagogues, like Beth Am (Old York Rd), Beth Or (Welsh Rd) and Temple Sinai (Limekiln Pike). They may be able to help you make a decision about the community that would fit you best.

I don't know much about Jenkintown school district: my first impression is that it's a small SD, as everyone I've known has attended either Abington or Cheltenham if they live in the Jenkintown/EP area.

Personally, I think your best bet is Upper Dublin for both the school district and the Jewish community. All these areas are diverse and, IMO, accepting of different cultures. You'll so well with whatever you choose.

I've lived in neighboring Abington for 25 years. I am Catholic and have no experience with the Jenkintown borough school district, but I have friends who live in Jenkintown and sing very high praises for the small, excellent schools there. I often hear Jenkintown public schools being compared to private schools. On the other side of Jenkintown, is Elkins Park, which does have a large, active Jewish community. Someone else here might know if there are any temples in Jenkintown, but I know that along Old York Road, which runs through Abington, Jenkintown, and Elkins Park there are three temples in a very short distance. Jenkintown and Elkins Park are small communities. Jenkintown is a borough and is organized separately. Elkins Park is part of larger Cheltenham Township, which is very diverse. Abington township is also very diverse. Both Abington and Cheltenham have many Jewish residents. The way the area has developed over generations is that all of these communities just run together. We know where the legal boundaries are, but the people just all come together in a really interesting mix. Little Jenkintown borough is quite unique in being a such a small, close community surrounded by large townships. I think Jenkintown is really a great community that has the benefits of all the diversity, the convenience of being close to everything, including the city, and yet, still is a very small town with excellent schools. I've loved living in this area and raising my kids here. I hope that you will join us!

We are in Cheltenham School district ( I have two at Cheltenham Elementary & one graduate from the high school), and while I am not Jewish we have a large Jewish population. And our school recognizes most of the Jewish holy days/holidays. Our school is very diverse, but we celebrate the diversity, and that is what makes our school so great!

Yes, most of the population is Jewish in the area and I'd say 75% is the ratio.
