Hi there, Is there a better way to earn money for my kids clothes? I don't want to sell on Ebay or Craigs List and I recently went to Once Upon A Child and they gave me hardly anything for what I had, is there a better way? Also, what are your favorite resale or consignment shops? I would love to learn about more, thanks!!

You can sell at one of the many resale events held by churches, schools and mom's clubs. I know that Dupage Doubles is looking for sellers; so is Parents Who Care.

I sell with Parents Who Care, and it's a pretty good sale. You get 85% of your sales, only pay $5 (I think) to be a seller, and unlike a lot of sales, you print your own tags instead of buying them. To get 85%, you do have to volunteer a couple of hours; otherwise, you only get 70% (I think).

you can always have your own "garage sale" Yard sale thing and hope for the best. I never had much luck. I had kids clothes that were in mint condition tried the sale thing, people would want to offer my 25 cents for something that was marked a dollar..was barely worn and had cost $15 or 20
to begin with. we just give our stuff away to wayside cross in aurora and take a tax deduction!

Try a site called GumdropSwap (http://gumdropswap.com). You can swap from anywhere in the US by sending the clothes your kids outgrow to this kids boutique in CT. It's instant gratification instead of waiting for an annual event lik e"Mommy and Me". As long your things are in good condition they don't turn down anything because of brand, size or season. They take everything unlike resale store like Once Upon a Child! They give you points to shop on the website and send the clothes that fit your kids. It's great if you don't have time, patience or know how to do consignment, Ebay, craigslist, tag sale, etc.

Here's what I've learned: save the trouble of a yard sale, take it to St. Vincents & get a receipt so you can deduct the cost from your taxes. Everyone wins, especially you since garage sales are a pain in the rear! And you'll know your kids' clothes will be used by someone who needs them.

At one point, I was a fan of Once Upon a Child but not anymore. It has become a huge hassle. I recently went there with a large container of freshly laundered good condition clothes and I was offered $1.38. I know I won't be selling there anymore. I plan to sell some things on ebay. Good luck!
