My experience with "energy bars" is that they are loaded with sugar and don't have a lot of protein. I think you're better off with a protein bar
We treat those bars like junk food at our house (we actually get the ZBars). It's like a cookie or a treat. Your kid is better off with a smoothie, some string cheese or almonds or a serving of milk.
I am always in favor of a banana..an apple...a yogurt or some applesauce as a snack. I think they have stood the test of time.
Why not send those with your kiddos?
just a suggestion...
No, it's almost always garbage in these products, and even if there are some decent ingredients, they are way overpriced. Think about whole foods and not spending money on a marked-up profit center for gyms. Most people in gyms don't know anything about nutrition, anyway. But they entice members with low enrollment fees and monthly dues, then make up the different in product sales and other add-ons.
I work in food science with top nutritional experts, and there is very little "out there" on the general market that is beneficial. Definitely people need to supplement (said the AMA over a decade ago), but not with heavily processed items. There is a safe energy product available direct from the manufacturer in the US, but it's not marketed for young kids (more to age 13 and up with some exceptions), so depending on the age of the kids, it might be appropriate. but it's not a substitute for general nutrition and a comprehensive nutritional supplement.
If you can send me a link or a nutrition panel from the product you are talking about, I may be able to give you additional info.
LoADED with calories. LOADED.
If you must do a bar, I'd do a Zone bar. They still have a couple hundred calories each, but have a balance of protein/fats/carbs that is done right, and a decent amount of vitamins/minerals added. But an apple or almonds (like Nervy Girl said) is probably better than any bar.
-- oh, and if you pay attention, Powerbars are generally for PRE-workout energy. Not post workout. I can't imagine your kids are working out at a level that requires the amount of protein in and glucose in one of these bars. Are they heavy lifting?? Yeah.. didn't think so. THAT is who those are designed for. Adults trying to max out with their lifting.
What does your doctor say?
Food is good for children. Food that looks like food - an apple, banana, carrot, stalk of broccoli, cheese, almonds. Energy bars are junk food. I would try to think of them like a candy bar. If you would occasionally allow a candy bar, then an energy bar would be ok. If you would prefer your child had a snack of real food, give them food.
One every once in a while isn't going to do any harm, but like any other sweet treat, they shouldn't have them every day.
I would look at the information on the bar about nutrition. We have found a lot of these so called energy bars are just packed full of sugar. Same with some of the drinks they have out there for working out or sports. Best to compare labels.
We don't give them to our kids. I'd rather give them something more nutritious.
It's probably not as good for them as an apple would be.
I tried googling ingredients and gave up. If the ingredients are real natural food with a hint of natural real sugar, then ok. If there are artificial ingredients and tons of sugar then no.
I can't get that name to come up where I can read the label. If the label has good ingredients listed then I'd say it's okay.
It is like eating a sweet goodie...like a big thick cookie. Sure it's ok as a treat every once in a while but don't over do it!
It's not my first choice, but my 10 year old eats them sometimes before she skates or goes to the gym. You have to read the label and see if you agree with the ingredients in that particular bar. It's better than a candy bar.
It could be not dangerous for kids, anyway processed food or beverage are always less healty than fresh food because the human body absorbs them in different way. In addiction many of them speed up metabolism and it's bad.
There is nothing more healty and energy than a good smoothie or juice! You can mix different veggies and fruits each time, I love it.
Broccoli, spinach and apple is one of the most healty smoothie.
I would say no , I prefer LAra, if any bars
