Is Nausea a Side Effect of an IUD?

A little over two months ago I had an IUD inserted, and since then I've been feeling nausea almost every day. It's so bad that I actually took a pregnancy test just to make sure, because I thought I was going through morning sickness again. I have the paragaurd (non-hormonal) IUD and would really like to know if this is normal, and how long it will last.

What can I do next?

I have an 11 yr old and after I had her I used the IUD. I had it in for 7 years and then decided to about a year ago to get it out and try to have another baby, put althrough the 7 years I never experienced nausea. The first time I had it in I experience like when I walked I would get poked by the string I went to the doctors they told me strings were too long so she shorten the strings. after that everything was fine. I just recently had another put in after my baby was born on april 1oth of 2006. It is perfect for me. My suggestion is to talk to the doctor who put it in. I just wanted to give you a little fyi that the nausea you feel is not normal. I hope the little advice I give to you helps you, and good luck to you. Please let me know what the outcome of the nausea was.

Nausea should not be a side effect of a non hormonal IUD.
There are no hormones or medication to make feel sick.
I would definitely see the Dr!

I had the Paraguard 3 times (after each pregnancy) and outside of a little heavier bleeding for the first 6 months or so I had no side effects. I would be seen by a MD to look for other sources of the nausea. BTW, I loved my IUD and had no problems with it. I think people tend to hear more horror stories than success stories, but if that was the case would they be so popular still?

i had one for about two years. i had to have mine removed because of a severe infection i deveolped in my uterus. it caused pain, high fever, very heavy bleeding and nausea. it would be wise to just have a quick talk with your ob/gyn, just to be on the safe side.

You should talk to your doctors. Nobody reacts the same. I have had my IUD in for two and a half years with no problems. And don't let the other girls comment freak you out about having the IUD. That is the rare one percent who have that problem. I have several friends with IUD's, and we all love it. But none of us had nausea, especially for 2 months. Go to your doctor, and good luck.

Hi K.,
I have had 2 IUD's. After my first child, I had one in for over 2 yrs. Then I had severe cramping. I had to force the Dr. to remove it. The cramping instantly went away. After my 2nd child. I had one in for about a yr. Cramping again. I Would definitely go to the Doctor! Have a nice day!

I have had the same type of IUD for abou 2 years now. I did have some side effects in the firts few months after it was inserted. But, nausea was not one of them. You may want to repeat your pregnancy test or see your Dr.

NO!!!!!! Get it checked NOW!!

I had one put in and two weeks later had to get it surgically removed from my abdomen area. It wasn't even in my uterus anymore. It was wrapped up in my omentum (belly fat and connective tissue) and right by my bladder. It could have been much worse if it had punctured my bladder or intestines.

GET IT CHECKED!! Can you still find the string? (that is important)
