I am seeing some bald spots and I am freaking out! I have lost some hair before with my two other boys but with my third it seems like in the last couple of months I have been losing a lot of hair! Which at first I thought no big deal it is just harmones but when my sister said that I was balding yeah that pretty much woke me up to the fact that it is not just me thinking I am losing a lot of hair but that I am! My youngest is a year in a half. I have noticed that it has been pretty bad a couple of months ago. Is this normal?

What can I do next?

I have always heard that your hair falls out after you stop nursing. . . . If you had been nursing until recently, I would think that is what is going on.

There are too many reasons for hair to fall out to list. The most common ones have been addressed already, except that a lack of protein can also be the culprit. If you are taking good natural vitamins and minerals, eating lots of fruits and veggies, taking a decent amount of high quality protein, and drinking lots of filtered water and still losing hair--you need to see a doctor.
Congratulations on a wonderful family! I wouldn't trade my 3 boys for anything! I will pray for your hubby's safe and soon return.

Are you still nursing? My hair didn't quit falling out until after I stopped nursing. If not, I might talk to your doctor about it.

please don't freak out. You may be stressed out which can have an impact on your hair , or you may need hair vitamens such as ultra hair ( the best one out there on the market ) Depending on your age you either need nutrients , too much chemicals on your hair at this time, or you need to check your sugar levels as well as your thyroid levels. Keep in mind that your thyroid levels change often and it is important to have a doctor that you can trust. If you just had surgery or a child in the previous 6 months, then it could be due to that, and if you have had any anethesia at all , well, that is a side effect. Take care. P.

E.,

I have had the same problem. I went to the doctor and had my blood work done to check out my vitamin levels. He told me to start taking Biotin-5mg which is a vitamin supplement for healthy hair, scalp, and nails. I get mine from the health food stores. Stress can also create hair loss!

Hi E.!
I would guess that it is a vitamin/mineral deficiency or something, which could be due to the nursing suggestion, however, even if you were, you likely arent now and havent been for a while. Is your diet good, and your water intake? Sometimes new moms diet and try to shed that baby weight, and incidentally deplete necessary nutrients that can result in hair loss.

If this doesnt sound like the case at all, please talk to your doctor about it. I had hair loss due to illness a few years back, and used a hair loss "system" I got from my cosmotologist consisting of shampoo, conditioner, and some leave in treatment. It did help, however it was over $100. for a supply (90 days), and was too expensive for me to continue with. I bet the doctor will have some suggestions.

Good luck, and take good care of yourself!

I think you should go ahead and talk to your doctor about it. Sounds to me like there might be something else going on.

That's about how long after my son that my thyroid went into hyper-drive and really messed me up. My hair was falling out, my skin was rough and extremely dry, I having major weight fluctuations and heart palpatations. Once diagnosed, they put me on meds that helped a little, but eventually my thyroid burned itself out and now I take thyroid replacement meds. My hair is fine now unless my meds need to be changed and my hair starts falling out again and my fingernails get all curvy and ridged.

If you have any of these other symptoms, you may have a thyroid problem. Apparently it's common after having children. Good luck!
