My daughter is 13 months old she just got put on lactaid milk last month i have noticed that all of her poops for the last two weeks have been like clay and are nugget sized. She is starting to strain now is this normal from the change of formula to milk or is this something serious.

What can I do next?

She's constipated. Give her some diluted prune juice. Maybe two ounces. Cut it in half with water.

I assume the ped told you to put her on lactaid? You should call and report this development to him or her. They need to know this.

It's important that you deal with this right away.

Some little ones can't handle milk at all. Both of my daughters were that way. We had to use soy milk, rice milk, almond milk, etc. They both grew out of the milk sensitivity by the time they were 3 years old, and now they can both have dairy no problem. You may want to discuss with your pediatrician about taking her off of dairy for a while, or really limiting how much you give her. It's very binding, and you definitely don't want to go into potty training with a constipated kid a year from now!

This sounds like it was caused by the switch to milk. Milk can be constipating. Firm pills is one form of constipation. I would try her on an alternative to milk such as rice or almond milk. Is she on lactaid milk because she's lactose intolerant? If not, you could try regular milk.

My grandson was constipated as a toddler and the doctor limited his milk intake and took away other foods, such as cheese, that constipate.

Do not give her foods on the BRAT diet. They're foods that tighten up the bowel movements. Bananas, rice, applesauce Can't remember the T.

Is it clay-colored or claylike in consistency? If it's pale (whitish or grayish), she needs to be evaluated by a doctor promptly. That's a red flag for certain digestive system problems. If it's the consistency of clay but a normal color, then I agree with the consensus - probably constipation. Talk to your pediatrician about her diet.

My son had "clay" poop once and that is when I started him on rice cereal and he didn't poop for over a week. I would get her off all milk and see if there is a difference because nuggets are never good. I got my son off dairy at 2 and it made a huge difference. Also, give her some prune juice or feed her prunes to help with the constipation.

Yah... your little darling sounds constipated. Talk to your pediatrician and another pediatrician and a food science nutritionist who actually has an accredited college education.

Tons of different fruits and fruit juices should help and then later mashed sweet potatoes and bananas.

Humans are not meant to consume the lactational secretions of another mammal. We are not cows, our children are not calves, cows milk is perfectly created for calves, not human babies.
Your baby is telling you......
If you're concerned about calcium, a healthier choice would be lots of green veggies and sesame seeds.

Is she eating more solid food in the last two months? If so I would think that's what' s causing it. Make sure she gets plenty of water every day, the heat will dehydrate her and make her poop harder. Also, fruits and veggies are important, along with no processed foods. And let her get plenty of exercise, walking, crawling, climbing, etc., to keep things moving through her system.

The straining is more than likely due to solid poops that she may not be used to, nugget size wouldn't cause a need to do that, unless she's already constipated and it's just coming out in small pieces. Does her abdomen feel rigid, as if her colon is full? If so make sure you give her pear or prune juice every day to get things going, and continue her on it as well..
