Is It Going to Leave a Nasty Scar???

My almost 2 year old busted his head open at church. Instead of stitching it up, they used glue and steri-strips (thankfully). He is a very pale child and I was wondering what I should put on it to help minimize the scarring. I've always heard to use vitamin E and the Neosporin commercials say that stuff will help. I was wondering if any of you have used something that helped. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND MERELY ON WHAT YOU'VE HEARD. I really want to know what you have SEEN work. Thanks in advance Mamas!

What can I do next?

My almost 2 year old had the same exact thing and we didnt use anything. Its been about 7 months and you cant even see the scar. With the glue stuff I guess there is very little scarring that is why they use it on the face. It did look like it would scar at first but really fades within a few months

My son fell in the garage this past May - he is also very pale (blond / blue). He received 5 stitches in the middle of his forehead.
We took him to a Pediatric Plastic Surgeon Center in Plano as we were also very concerned with scarring. www.plasticsforkids.com
They gave us the following serum to massage gently onto the wound daily (once it was closed). We still apply it as often as he will let us, though he often will not let us or wipes it off with a towel.

Lumiere Bio Restrative Eye Cream with PSP by NeoCutis
(yes, it's an eye cream)

We were advised that if we are not satisfied with the appearance of the scar after 12 months post-infliction that we could have it re-incised (re-cut) and they would repair it (as they were not the ones that originally stitched it), but they felt with proper care and placement of the serum it would heal well enough in 12months.

Does he have a scar? Yes. He looks like Harry Potter.
Is it getting better? Yes. It is fading.
Will I have it re-treated? No, not likely.
Do I use the serum? You betcha!!! It's pricey, someones gotta use it!

Let me know if you have any questions - I can send you photos of where we started & where we are now if you want to see. It's always nice to have another head bangin' child to compare notes with!!!

mederma is GREAT for scars. it's kinda pricey, but VERY worth it. you can get it OTC at any pharmacy. we have used it for several things, but my best results were with a breast surgery(i had a benign tumor removed). you can NOT see the scar unless you REALLY look. sometimes, my husband will look and say "which side was your surgery on again?". seriously, the scar is that faded! but you don't used it until it scabs over, good luck!

Sunscreen is also important to protect scars and minimize them. That's what my son's doc said re. his scar from minor surgery.

Shaklee Enfuselle C&E Repair - prevented my fair-skinned son from having plastic surgery to correct a scar from nose to lips. I used it after breast surgery, no scars!

I swear by Vitamin E oil.

I used it on the advice from my Dr about 8 yrs ago for my hysterectomy scar and you have to REALLY look to see my scar.

Last year I had 2 lumps moved, one on my waistline which would show when I wear my bikini. My plastic surgeon told me to use Vitamin E oil and keep it OUT OF THE SUN. I did this faithfully on the 2 places, one on waist and 1 on my leg. Again, you have to search to see the incisions.

There are a lot of bell and whistle products sold on the market. Vitamin E Oil is less than $10 a bottle (I paid less than $5 yrs ago).

Another very important point is to keep it out of the sun.

Good luck..

Hi J., I have used vitamin E capsules. Break oopen and rub into scar. Ive used this on a bad burn and stiche scar in eybrow area. Seems to work well. You can purchase something at stores for scars but it is like $14 and use like 4 times a day. Of course wait till stiches are or whatever they used for closure, be removed.

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil! It's amazing. It comes in a solid form but melts at around 74-80 degrees, so when you take it out of the jar it will melt as you apply it.
