Is It Common to Develop IBS After a C Section?

I has my 3rd child. by emergency c section and I have been having the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome ever since (for about 3 months now). In your experience is this common and will it go away on its own eventually? I am making dietary changes to see if that helps and will be scheduling a Dr appointment. I am nursing and I am also worried about my milk supply. I know I should be eating, but it's so hard when I keep getting sick. Any advice?

What can I do next?

I've only ever had 2 c-sections, but I've never heard of IBS being common after c-section.

I would call your doctor's office in the morning. The nurse will ask you more questions to help determine whether this is something you can handle on your own (with change of diet), whether or not you need a prescription, or if maybe you should be seen.

Definitely give your OB a call. They've heard it all before!

I didn't have a c-section, but something similar happened to me after my third pregnancy. Turns out, I had injured my siadic nerve (S1). My daughter sat on my siadic nerve for the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy. It is also near where the epidural location is. My chiropracter said that IBS is a common sign of a back injury/siadic nerve injury.

You should talk to your OB.

I have IBS and last summer it worsened. The doctor also assumed it was IBS acting up. When I kept getting worse I returned to the doctor who did a culture and I had an intestinal infection. IBS is not the only condition to cause these symptoms. See the doctor and find out what this is.

BTW sounds like you vomit or feel nauseous after eating. This has never been a symptom for me and I've been dealing with IBS for many, many years. I suggest that the cause of these symptoms is likely something else.

For me symptoms are abdominal cramps and diarrhea, often explosive. I would feel nauseous but not from eating. The nausea was caused by the pain. Because you've had abdominal surgery, I suggest that your symptoms are related to the surgery and you do need to find out what is going on.

You need a gastroenterologist. They deal with digestive issues and bowel issues.
