You moving in on my name?? Huh?
:)
I always buy gifts for those I want to buy gifts for, I don't worry about things like titles.
Unless it is St Nick day but that is another post. :p
I work at a small school. This is my first year working here. Is it appropriate to buy your boss a small gift for Christmas?
If so, any suggestions? Thank you!!
I don't know what others do as this is my first year at the school. I do know several of the employees have financial issues so
I don't want to do this infront of anyone if I give anything at all. I just appreciate my boss being kind and helpful to me. Should I have something mailed to the house or just place it on her desk? Then no one would see.. just some thoughts..

Small gift. Homemade goodies, chocolates or a card with a gift card inside.
i think it's great. just something small or maybe a gift card to starbucks or something. you could put it on her desk when she's not there to avoid a big scene. no one even needs to know it is from you really.
.
How thoughtful! I know the director at our preschool received gifts, and the principal at the elementary school receives gifts. So I think it should be okay.
Why not get a 'group' gift with the other employees?
With a nice card.
If the others, typically do get the Boss something and that is the norm... then well, I guess so, you can get something. What do the other employees typically do???
But nothing personal.
A small gift. Token gift.
Just to be cordial.
I would ask the other employees if they might want to chip in a few bucks for something kinda nice (nothing too fancy). Maybe even a gift card to a local restaurant.
I wouldn't ask coworkers to go in on a gift. You're new so if they haven't been doing it in past years, they don't want to. It's not typical to give a boss a gift where I've worked. The idea is they make more money... I wouldn't put your coworkers on the spot taking up a collection. It may lead to resentment. I think something homemade is nice. Show your appreciation. Giving a gift card also seems odd to me when it's your boss. I would also include a note kind of saying you wanted to take this pop to say thank you etc. You giving a gift will prompt him or her to give you one and start it for every year. Honestly, I don't want my subordinates to give me a gift. I feel guilty as i make more money and then I need to add them to my list and it seems silly. We give a joint gift to all the administrative staff so not like I don't give anything. But more peop,e on my list becomes an obligation etc...
I work for a small company, I do give a gift to Boss. He gives out x-mas bonuses. and i do it privately if i can.
