I cannot sleep!! I am going to be such a hag when the kids wake up. Maybe I should smoke and drink to pass the time, :)

What can I do next?

Thanks Cheryl! Doug did take one of them to work with him today so that was nice.

Don't smoke! It's bad for you. Talk to me instead. Have a glass of red wine. One glass a day is supposed to be good for the heart and make you live longer. PS - my answer was in the spirit of the question - having fun with you!

When I get occasional insomnia I take 2 benadryl. It is anti-allergy but is very mild in that it gets out of the body completely in 24 hours. I am sometimes a bit fuzzy in the AM still, but that is better than cranky and tired. My sister takes Valerian root capsules when she cannot sleep, and she tells me they do not leave her groggy in the AM. But only about 2x per year when I am still wide awake after midnight. BUT remember, even if you are not sleeping but laying quietly you are still resting. I try to console myself with that thought when I cannot sleep for a few hours before heading to meds.

Everyone gets insomnia from time to time.
Do your best to wear yourself out today.
Go easy on the caffeine (maybe just one coffee early in the morning).
Get some exercise, spend some time outside.
No alcohol close to bedtime, have some chamomile tea or warm milk instead.
Then get a good nights sleep tonight.
Maybe twice a year I'll have an insomnia run that lasts 2-3 days.
That first really restful night once it passes is just so good.
Hang in there!

ooh Molly!! i hope you were able to get some sleep...when I can't sleep? I TRY to stretch out...to relax...then I make hot chocolate...it might be psychosomatic - but it works!!! If not - then take half the normal dose of Nyquil!!!

stress levels can keep a person from sleeping...what can you do to reduce your stress levels?

You won't be a hag!!! Have Doug take the kids and rest!!!

When I can't sleep I put in ear phones and listen to meditation tapes. Pick a long one..... there are tons on youtube. Usually fall asleep fairly quickly with the soothing voice and music. Try searching for "Kelly Howell." I like her voice.

I got the joke... Of course you won't smoke or drink--lighten up!

When I can't sleep, I start a household chore like cleaning the refrige, bathroom, putting something together in the crockpot or washing... funny, I get really sleepy then and crawl back to sleep.

A little late but, sometimes when I can't sleep I either:
a) take melatonin
b) think in something I need to do around of the house but I really don't want to do and give me 15 min to either sleep or get up and do it
c) massage my husband...for some reason it puts me to sleep, lol.
