I let my six year old daughter wear an Indian headdress to the grocery store. I imagine that gets more stares than a tiara. Sometimes she wears a vest with it. Really? Let them be kids! :) If I honestly felt like wearing one, I would too. :)
My 5 year old daughter loves to wear a princess tiara when we go out. It makes her feel pretty and happy. I notice lately that we are getting long stares from just about everyone that passes by. Is 5 too old to be wearing a tiara in public places? She is tall and looks a bit older that 5 years old, so imagine a 6 year old with a tiara in public.
Thanks for all of the feed back, I love it! I will continue to let her wear the tiara in public.
Love,
K.

Not at all. Nor 6, nor 8, nor 55.
Maybe they are looking because they think she's really cute?
Hmmm-
I have a B day coming up...
I think...after all I have been thru/done in my life...I want a tiara!!
Is there a site for adults?? The 'non' beauty queen crowd??
Please Advise...

**oops**
Almost forgot...LET HER WEAR IT!!!
I think I'll go buy me one. None of us are too old to be princesses :)
Heck no. She should wear that tiara as long as she wants. One of my tall four year old girls wore rain boots, leggings, a tutu, a tank top, and a crown today to the zoo. She told me she looked beautiful and I agreed.
You're never too old to wear a tiara in public!
Let her have the fun.. The strange looks are from people thinking. "I see the princess,, and that must be the queen with her. Wonder whats in her purse"...lol
My 14 year old wears tiaras and mismatched socks, in brilliant hues. She also wears silver glitter spikes (without the socks). She has a bright pink tutu she wears to church with bright pink leggings and a neon and black top.
Every body knows who she is and loves her for it.
Let her wear her tiara and go to littlemismatched.com, that's my daughter's favorite website.
I agree. My aunt and I go out with ours on sometimes too. If she gets stares, well, sucks to be those guys with no sense of awesome.
The probably just think she's cute as all get out, or are remembering themselves or their own kids at that age.
no way!!
i STILL wear a princess crown in public!
dressing up is fun for every age and you can get away with it until youre in college and then again when you have your own kids (i should know!)
Im 44 and for my last bday I wore one for about 4 days straight! Got lots of positive, happy comments from people! No, she isn't too old. Let her have fun and be a princess for as long as she likes! =)
Absolutely not. If it makes her happy then she should wear it.
Just remind her yes, she can wear it, but not to school.. I know at our schools, no hats are allowed.
I know many a grown woman who wear tiaras every once in a while and yes, out in public..
Let her get her princess on! I need a halo and horns so everyone will know what mood I'm in.lol
Oh who cares what others think as they look at her.
Maybe they think she is cute and they reminisce about their childhood.
So what.
Let her.
She will grow out of it one day.
She is a child, with a child's heart.
That is good.
Better than having her dress like Hannah Montana or iCarly, already.
WHICH... some Kindergarten girls, DO dress like that.
Which is real, icky. Not age appropriate.
I loooove it!! My daughter is almost 9 and has worn a tiara out and about. She even wore a Halloween costume shirt with shorts yesterday. I told her no today when she put it on again...only cuz it needed to be thrown in the washing machine. So, after laundry day then she will be back in the costume again.
Make sure to take a picture of her wearing it and write about it in a journal. What a great childhood you are giving her!!
All Girls Are Princesses, of COURSE she should wear her tiara!
Enjoy her, possibly the on-lookers have never seen a REAL princess in person?!
:)
I agree! Let her wear it! Maybe they are staring because she's so regal? Or maybe some think there is some sort of event they are missing. I'd hate to think all those people are just mean!
she sounds adorable--let her be a princess for as long as she wants! You will only remember her wearing it with a smile, i garuntee it. My son wears costumes almost every day--this morning at Kohl's he whipped out some ninja moves (while in his ninja costume, of course) to impress the ladies in line behind us. I've never been more proud to be a mama haha
.
No way! Let her be her awesome, happy, princess loving self!! I know grown adults who like to wear a tiara from time to time. And, they are just about the most happy and wonderful woman I know! If I saw a 5 year old in a tiara, I would probably look. Because, I'd think it's adorable!
No way!!! you let her wear that crown as long as she wants! I love it! :)

My tall, older-looking 5-year-old, also in Belmont, has been wearing a tiara to school (daycare) every day for the past two weeks. It's just part of her outfit that she puts on every morning. I barely notice it anymore. Enjoy, and maybe we'll run into each other and the girls can admire each other's tiaras. :)

Honestly my 21 year old has been known to sport one from time to time. :p People are just too judgmental these days.
Wana have fun with them? Next time someone stares at her tell them, doesn't she look beautiful? Yeah, that will set them off nicely. :p
She's enjoying life! Yeah for her! She should wear it with pride.
Who cares what other people think. They need to get a life and lighten up.
screw them, to put it bluntly. What cares what others may be thinking if it makes her happy. There is no age that is too old if it make her feel good about herself!
Who cares what people think! When my daughter was 5 we used kool-aid to dye her hair pink. She was VERY popular in her kindergarten class after that :)
When she was maybe 11 or 12, she got vampire fangs for Halloween, the kind that look real, and wore them every day for months until she lost one. She even had one boy in our neighborhood convinced that she was really a vampire. He still won't walk in front of our building and she's 15 next month. Let her wear the tiara. Heck, now I want one too.
Okay....now I want to run out and get one for myself!
We are only young once, so let her enjoy it as long as possible! (You too, Mama!!)
I let my 4yr old son wear a Mr Incredible costume to the grocery store one evening when I was in a rush and didn't want to take the time for a clothing change. He thought he was cool and strutted his stuff through that store. We got lots of looks but most of them were the good kind of looks. On the days I don't help him pick out his clothes, he can come up with some pretty interesting combinations and usually his shirt is on backwards. I figure it is going to build his confidence to be a little different from everyone else and walk with his head held high.
They're probably taking a good long look so they can remember what it looks like when they get home - to go online and buy one for themselves. She sounds precious.
Absolutely not! Sounds like a cutie! Who cares what others think anyway :)
Mean people suck!
Give them the "mind your own bee's wax" look and go about your business!
We skip and sing in public too so I don't know if I should actually give advice on this one but.....
Let Your Daughter decide when she is uncomfortable in public places not the other way around.
Best Wishes!
Let her dress up if she wants (unless it is school or someplace that has a dress code). My 5 year old son likes to turn his shirt around and walk around with it backwards. I imagine passers by can guess he dressed himself.
Honestly, she is not hurting anyone or offending anyone by wearing it---who cares??? If it makes her happy, let her do it until she feels she has had enough. She is only a little 5 year old princess for so long---live it up!
M
When I saw the title I thought you were asking about a son! But I can't see why this would even be an issue if she's excited and happy about it. Just be glad she isn't imitating some teenage dress style .... and trying to grow up too fast.
Don't be so concerned with what other people think -- try to celebrate your child for who she is and appreicate where she is developmentally.
I'm actually surprised anyone would notice this. I feel like I see tiaras often, and it's never phased me. They're probably staring because it looks cute, or your daughter is striking in some other way.
I don't know about me wearing a tiara out, however, if I wear one in the house, will it make doing housework less of a drudgery? Didn't someone write a book about that? Just like XINE, I would give her a big smile...tell her I love it...and she looks great!! They grow up so fast, let her have her fun.

She is just having fun, let her and forget the stares...they are probably from old ladies that forget how to live.
Let her be herself, and people can just mind their own business. :-)
You are never to old to wear a tiara in public!!!!
Seriously...she's five...let her wear it...who cares if people look....likely they think it is adorable.
My son is 6 and a giant six....and he just wore a batman costume to the grocery store yesterday. He had fun...people made fun comments to him. Let him be a kid is my view.
Just remember that one day, you will miss that tiara.
Not a thing wrong with it at all!
HAHAHA yup my 6 y/o daughter thinks her tu-tu and galoshes still go with everything. Oh and my big 9 y/o (4' 10" tall and 93 pounds) son went to the store wearing the "mario" hat from his halloween costume two weeks ago. I am glad my kids are still kids :) don't worry what other people think. I have a neighbor who's son is in 5th grade, and they let him dye his hair pierce his ears and he walks around in heavy metal t-shirts and looks like he belongs in high school not elementary school. Too far the other way IMO...
I wanted to add that last spring at field day I was showing my 3 y/o how to roll down the grassy hill and it was actually my second time down when I stood up and realized that all of my older son's classmates mothers were watching me. I jumped smiled and said "I forgot how much fun that was". Some sneered but most smiled, screw 'em. I am not ready to be grown up and boring either :)
Hell no -- Given the Chance I STILL would wear a Tiara out !!!!! they're probly just jealous she has one and they don't! If I seen her I would Smile Big and Tell her I Love it !!
We went through a similar stage...
going into first grade next week and the new thing is the "feather" in the hair thing...she wants one before school starts...
They are little girls and I am all for them just being little girls until they no longer want to...So no I don't think five is too old. I've seen some tweens and teens wearing lots of bows, "little girl type" barretts.
i dont think so....my sons turned 7 yest. and he wore his SWAT team outfit to hampton beach...all day...up and down the boardwalk...in the ocean then to the store then to the sitters....haha
Enjoy it!!! She must be so cute!
Makes me wanna get one too
I think you should put one on yourself. Then you can both share the long looks :)
My "baby girl" will be 18 this fall. One of my very favorite pictures of her was taken when she was about 6-ish or so -- in heavy dark sweats (it was January) but with the cutest pink princess hat with a long pink tulle veil hanging off it -- and the biggest, happiest smile on her face.
The picture of her as a happy princess has helped us both remember who she is as she navigates adolescence and more.
Enjoy her. And let her enjoy her own cute self.
I just wanted to throw in that my 4 yr old and 1.5 yr old boys love to wear bunny ears :) I think it is so cute but their dad thinks it is girly! But guess what they wear the ears whenever they feel like it! I think a tiara on a girl of any age it totally appropriate ;)
I'm 47 and I'm not too old!
