Hi Everyone~
Any of you who are up to date on interpeting thyroid tests..could you help?
If you are IN range, the doctors dismiss it. However, I want to know if I could be close to the range of hypothyroidism.....
I have fibro and I am trying to rule other things out...............any help appreciated!!!!

TSH is 1.140 ranges 0.450-4.500
T4 9.0 4.5-12.0
T3 2.1 0.0-4.9

What can I do next?

Your thyroid tests look great! (I know...probably not what you want to hear)
A lower TSH is actually better (as long as it doesn't go below .5 or so). It is when it gets to about 4 when they'll start thinking hypothyroid. I'm actually glad to see they've lowered the ranges (been out of work as a SAHM for a while now) because they used to say normal was up to 7 or so.
If you are suffering from fibro...BE SURE THAT THEY HAVE CHECKED your Vitamin D 25-OH level!!! It needs to be above 40!!
Good luck!

Sorry, but your results are completely normal. You are not even remotely hypothyroid.

1.14 is a very good TSH level, if you were verging on 4.5 you could be considered very slightly low; when my hypo-t was diagnosed, my TSH was 75!!!!!! Not 7.5, 75!!! THAT's low. (High TSH = low thyroid.)

The short answer is no, not even close to hypothyroidism. Google thyroid problems and and you'll find a ton of information but here's a brief summary. The higher your TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) level the more you body (the pituitary gland) is trying to signal you thyroid to produce more T3 and T4. Your doctor was pretty thorough to go ahead and test you T3 and T4 levels too. Sometime times our bodies (for a number of reasons) can have normal TSH levels but still have off T3 and T4 levels. This also doesn't appear to be the case with levels you listed above. If you are experiencing hypothyroid symptoms and still feel like you might have a thyroid problem have your doctor look at your free T3 and T4 numbers as well (assuming the numbers above are your total T3 and T4 numbers. The free T3 & T4 numbers shows you the level of hormones actually available in your body for use. If you aren't already seeing an endocrinologist, I highly recommend that you ask for a referral to if you decide to have a more in depth evaluation. Best wishes.

You could have N thyroid function but be iodine deficient (a lot of symptoms are similar). You can try taking iodine supplements. I has the same situation with insomnia, bad hair, irritability, water retentiom, bad PMS....you name it. Taking iodine cured all that! Most people iodine deficient and are not aware of it. read up stuff online about fibro diseases and iodine def symptoms and you will see.
In the US iodine is sold in a form of Lugol's solution, I bring mine from Europe, where it is in a tablet form and I get it without a prescription.

Good luck.

Very normal! I tried to find something abnormal for you, but no luck! 1.14 would actually be heading towards hypERthyroidism rather than hypO. However it is still totally normal, no worries of hyper based on those labs either. T4 and T3 are right in the middle of the normal ranges as well. If your TSH was closer to 4.5 then I would say you might be borderline or mildly hypo. Sorry I didn't have the answer you would like to hear! Good luck!

While it is true that everyone's normal range is slightly different, there are several other possibilities of what might be happening. One is type 2 hypothyroidism, where your body cannot use thyroid correctly. My mom (with 38 years experience in nutritional counseling) recommends this book, "Feeling Fat, Fuzzy or Frazzled?" Authors are Richard Shames, MD and Karilee Shames, Ph.D, RN. If it is metobolic syndrome or fibromyalgia, I would be happy to share some nutritional protocols that have helped many folks.

With care,
P.

Within Normal Limits is subjective. Do you have symptoms of Hypo or Hyper-thyroidism? My Thyroid levels are all WNL, but I have symptoms of Hypo-thyroidism and I take a low dose of Armour Thyroid every day. If you feel that your current doctor is dismissing you, then maybe you need to find another doctor.
