My kids are 7, 12, and 15.
They have no social media accounts. I don't see ANY good reason for them to have them.
Hi Moms
At what age have you let your kids have an Instagram account?
Thanks
Thanks Moms. I agree with you.
Thanks for your perspectives!
My kids are 7, 12, and 15.
They have no social media accounts. I don't see ANY good reason for them to have them.
The official age from the app is 13, so I have not allowed my children to knowingly break the rules - if I don't make the rules matter, then they won't either. That being said, neither of my kids - now 13 and 16 - want anything to do with social media. They both feel there is too much drama on it, especially instagram and snapchat. They're left out of certain aspects of their social world as a result, but they don't want it, and I'm grateful for that.
My oldest is 12 and my response is not yet.
Our son is 19 and he still doesn't have an Instagram account - his choice.
Same with Twitter and Facebook.
The people he hangs out with don't like all the drama around social media.
They'd much rather be social in person than play around with social media accounts.
Never. They do not need to play out their lives on the internet for all to see. The internet is forever and they will be judged by their posts and the company they keep.
I also want to add that too many people tie their self-worth and self-esteem to the quantity of "likes" received. Nothing good can come of that.
My 14 year old son has one, him and his friends share things like pictures of their pets, video game information, etc, I monitor to make sure nothing inappropriate is happening.
moot point for me, but if i had kids today i certainly wouldn't let them have one before it's legal at 13.
