My son is 9 months old and at around 7 months he started tilting his head randomly to both sides. My guess is he is looking at the world from a different angle as he usually smiles and is happy when he is doing it. He also does it when somebody else is tilting his/her head in front of him, so I am not sure this is something I should be concerned about. Any insights on this are highly appreciated.
Sounds like imitative behavior. Nothing to worry about.
If he were *consistently* holding his head to one specific side,(always left or always right) I'd suggest having his vision checked when he was older. (sometimes it's torticolis, sometimes it is indicative of a vision issue-- my nephew had this, it was corrected.) But what you are describing--- don't worry.
As long as he is t getting stuck on one side or the other, or it seems like he really doesn't have control over it, I wouldn't worry.
Does he like to hang upside down?
Babies like to view things from different angles. I did a long walk with my daughter hanging upside down when she was around 8 months. She loves bending over in her high chair, hanging upside down, etc.
If he is doing it when someone else does it, it would probably be imitating. It may be nothing since he does it on both sides. However, bring it up to the doc at his next appt. A friend of mine's son did this and it turned out to be an eye issue. But he only did it on one side and would shake his head sometimes as well.
