Shaving hair does not make it grow back thicker - it's an old wives' tale - no truth to it. So go ahead & do what you want. I suspect the hair will fall out on its own eventually.
I was wondering how long facial hair stays on a newborn? My son has a mustache and hair on his arms. He also has a unibrow. It's cute, but I was wondering if it will fall out? He's 4 months 2 weeks old. A friend of mine suggested to use a hair trimmer on it, but we know hair grows back thicker when you shave it. Any Suggestions?

Shaving your hair doesn't really make it go back thicker it's just an old wives tail. The reason it seems like it's thicker is because hair is thickest at the base where it comes out of the skin and it tapers towards the end. When your shave it you are cutting the hair off right at the thickest part so when that hair starts to grow it looks and feels a little thicker because now the base is the top or end of the hair. If you were to continue to let it all grow back in over time it would all be thin again. The same thing would happen if you quit shaving your legs over time the hair would be long and soft again like your arm hair. So anyways if you want to trim it go ahead.
I suggest, before doing anything, would be to talk to your pediatrition. I am sure it's normal to have hair. I think our daughter did. Maybe not as much as what you talked about, but it eventually went away. Again, I would talk to your pediatrition first to find out if it's normal, what to expect, etc.
The other posters are right about the hair growing back thicker if you trim it: total myth.
The hair you're talking about may fall out or, as your son's head grows the hair will sort of spread out and not seem so thick. My DS1 looked a bit monkeyish when he was born... his hairline came nearly all the way down his forehead to his eyebrows! A month later, totally different. And his hairline continued to recede 'til he had a huge bald spot on top of his head. Looked like a monk. A cute one, but still. ;)
Of course, it all also depends on how hairy you & the baby's dad are.
Have fun with your fuzzy little guy!
My baby girl had sideburns, hairy shoulders, and a hairy back when she was born. So yeah, she was basically a monkey. At around six or seven months it started getting lighter, and today, at 16 months, only rarely, usually when she's in the tub, do I even notice that she has a little bit still on her back. So it should go away.
Shaving the hair will not make it grow back thicker. What happens when you shave the hair off is it blunts the end of the hair making it appear thicker as it grows out. But i don't think you should start trimming your baby's facial hair. My baby had really hairy ears and shoulders until he was about 6 or 7 months. he is 11 months now and you can hardly see it. I think his facial hair will do the same thing. If you are really concerned, I would talk to his doctor. Most likely, it will go away on its own with time.
I wouldn't trim it especially on his face, it will fall out eventually, it is just located in places where he doesn't rub it off naturally. Both my kids were born with hair in weird places. My oldest had a patch of dark hair at the base of his back that didn't fall out until he was almost 2(he also looked like he had sideburns for a while). Both of my kids had long black hair that grew off the tops of their earlobes and their shoulders were very hairy. Just give it time.
The hair that you is on your baby is normal. It is called lanugo and will go away all on its own. Nothing to worry about.
My son is 6 and still has a little bit of furry shoulders. He also has a furry jawline, but it's all really light in color so you almost don't notice it. He was a bald baby until he turned 1. It's almost like he was compensating in other areas for that. I'm sure it will eventually fall out. I wouldn't worry, and would definitely not trim anything. He's just a baby. Just love him.
I agree with a lot of the others that this is normal. Neither my husband or I are particularly hairy, but #2 son was! Actually quite humerous. His was really light, almost transparent, so not many people noticed, so I don't remember when it all went away. I'd think your son is fine. I do remember when the hair in the odd places left, so did the hair in the normal places. He was completely bald. Congratulations on your DS.
