Inexpensive Camcorder with Reasonable Quality Needed

My kid wants a camcorder for xmas. Not sure why she can't use her phone, she says it fills up the storage too fast. Anyway, I don't want to spend too much on something that may be obsolete already. Anyone bought one recently that was inexpensive and had reasonable quality?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the suggestions, I wound up finding one of the "action cams" similar to a "gopro" that are small and can strap on to a helmet and even go underwater. They are wifi enabled and On sale for 59.99, can't beat that!

How about getting her the vimeo app on her phone to upload the videos so they aren't taking up phone space? It's free, and you can do cool stuff with the videos after upload (string clips together to make movies, etc.). The only caveat is that you should help her set up the privacy settings when she gets her account, so all her videos aren't accidentally available for public viewing.

I'm chuckling because I have a camcorder, but would love a smartphone!

why not either get her more storage, or a back-up venue so she can get her vids off her phone more quickly?

A camcorder! For your 13-year-old dd? Ah, all of these fun cities with their hipster residents (yes, preaching to choir / pot calling kettle black). I'm going with - She does not need a camcorder. When is she planning to use it? How is she planning to carry it around? If anything, an iPod other than her phone (if she has an iPhone) would be an extra device that she could use for video storage. But I seriously doubt that she will make good use of a camcorder.

ETA: I just googled "camcorder" and saw one model under $50 but it gets not-great reviews. Other than that, it's $100 and up (and up and up) for an actually good camcorder. Combine that with "normal teenager stuff" (gets broken in her backpack, gets stolen at a party, etc etc) and it just seems like there might be a better way to give her the general idea of what she wants when she says she wants a camcorder.

If she has an android phone I would suggest just buying her a larger SD card. If she has an iPhone then maybe subscribe to a service such as flikr to upload her photos to the cloud. Another alternative is buying a flash drive the plugs in to the phones charging port to save the files.

A previous post about a GoPro is also a good idea. But those are not cheap to buy.

Do you think maybe she wants a Go-Pro? Those are kind of like camcorders, except new fangled and fancy...does she really know what a camcorder is? I'm betting she just wants some external camera. I'd go Go!

Camcorders are out of date. Most people who choose to not use their cell phones have digital cameras. Nowadays they have massive video storage and you can get a larger cards too. Then just plug the card into a device and it uploads everything to the computer and deletes all the material off the card too.

We have a nice camera we bought at Walmart in the Electronics department. It has a super fast shutter speed. That is what I need most. I can use pretty much any camera but really wanted a faster shutter so that I can take a better group of photos, one right after the other quickly.

You can buy tripods, straps, and more in the same department too.
