Hello Everyone!

In preparation for #2, my husband and I are looking for quality referrals for contractors that do work in the Skokie area. I am particularly interested in contractors that have done attic conversions. Also, we are in the beginning process of all this and we also need a home equity loan. Anyone gotten one recently with a low rate? Our bank offered 8.5%--umm, no thanks. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!

What can I do next?

I am an Angie's list member also, highly recommend it. I got my contractor through them - Neighborhood Remodelers - ###-###-####. They were great and remodeled the 2nd floor/attic of our queen anne bungalow this past winter.

We got a home equity line of credit from our mortgage company (national city).I would think you'd get the best rate from your own mortgage company, but perhaps your transactional bank would be ok too. We got a v. low rate- around prime - 3/4%. I don't remember the actual percentage rate, but it wasnt more than 7%, it might have been less than 6%.

Good luck!

hi. don't know much about the loan part of your question but i do have a very reliable, competent contractor who i'm sure would do work in skokie. he redid two of our bathrooms a few years ago and just did some little jobs last week. i have no idea if he has experience w/ attic conversions, but it's worth the call...

I have gotten so many good referals by joining Angie's List! I think it's about $50 + a year to join, but TOTALLY worth it to get honest reviews! www.angieslist.com (Chicago, which includes the Skokie area). Good luck!
