In Need of a New Phone

Okay, so I have a Blackberry, which I really like, but it has a required data plan. I don't really use the data plan, so I want to discontinue it, but it is required with my phone. Why should I pay that much every month for something I don't use? I am due for an upgrade, so I was thinking of getting a phone that has the full qwerty keyboard for texting (which I do frequently) but doesn't have the data requirement. I am with AT&T, so do any of you (or your children or whoever) have a new AT&T phone you really like that has the keyboard but no data plan? Thanks!

EDIT: I will not be switching carriers, and I don't want an iphone. Okay, I do, LOL, but I am unwilling at this time, and it's not in the budget. Please answer only the question I asked and not anything else. Thanks! Btw, I'm really not trying to be rude, but it seems like people always want to give any answer except the information I'm looking/asking for. I feel bad for adding that part, but I felt it was necessary after getting two irrelevant answers. Sorry if it comes off mean or whatever... not my aim to do so.

What can I do next?

iPhone 4 all the way. Yes there is a data plan requirement. The way around this is an unlock. Very simple to do. And you will be able to do social networking, email, Internet ect. For the cost of a standard data plan. Just tell AT&T it's a gift foe someone so they don't sign u up for iPhone data. It is perfectly legal althoug AT&T an apple don't like it.

My husband has the samsung strive and loves it~ thru At&t. It is not a smart phone, we refuse to pay for all that extra when we have the internet at home. I sound like an old lady lol Im only in my 20's! Anyway, it has the full keyboard, a big screen, decent camera. What he likes the most is that it has the conversation texts. If someone is texting you it keeps your entire conversation in one file instead of having to go back and forth to read what all has been said. It isn't touch screen which is kind of a good thing, we have had a couple of touch screen phones stop working when you try to touch buttons on the screen. He is really hard on phones for example he can't have a flip phone bc everyone he has had they've broke in half!! But this one seems to be sturdy enough for him so far!!

UPDATED: BTW if you are up for an upgrade check out their website. When we were looking for new phones we first went to the store and checked out all the phones and decided on the exact phone we wanted. Then we looked online and callled different store (every store has different specials) I found my phone at a store on sale for $20 plus a free blue tooth. My husband checked that AT&T website daily (it changes every day) and eventually the phone he wanted was FREE on their site!! They have tons of free and cheap ones online and they ship them to you!

I just this weekend switched from AT&T to Virgin Mobile. I did not have data or texting previously (very old school), but wanted it. Virgin has a $25/month plan with 300 min and unlimited data/text. For $40/month I could have gotten 1200 min. $60 is unlimted everything. The network is the Sprint network.

I couldn't get a replacement phone for free, but I paid $160 for the Samsung Intercept with pull out keyboard. I was paying $40/month with rollover minutes with AT&T and had thousands of minutes saved, so the $25 plan is saving me a lot of money, so I could afford the phone.

Correction - I meant 300 not 30 minutes. And it is an Android platform.

I fought getting a new phone for some time because all I wanted to do was have it for emergency calls. I finally broke down and got an iPhone because they are running a special now - $49.00. I still don't know how
to do much on it, but I don't regret getting it. So far it's been great.

L., I am with AT&T and just upgraded about 3 wks ago to a plum colored Samsung Strive. Love it, with my rebate it was only around $10 online, has a slide out keyboard, has sort of an IPhone look. Took a little getting used to but now it's fantastic. I choose it because next to the blackberry, it had some of the best reviews online. Fantastic for texting. No data plan is required, I don't do that.
