Implant Experiences

I'm considering having breast implants and would like to hear the experiences of women that have had breast implants. Here is my info: I'm 44 and still madly in love with my husband of 21 years. We have 4 children in their teens. I've always been tall, rather thin, and a 32/34A. It has always been difficult to find nice fitting clothes. I don't like looking frumpy and wearing big, baggy clothes. On the other hand, I'm not a tight-fitting, skin-bearing lady either. I simply like to wear nice, talored-fitting clothes. I'm having a horrible time finding clothes that fit nice. More often than not, I find a shirt that I really like but to have it fit over my hips (about a size 10), it sags over my chest (about a size 4/6). For MANY years I've been "creative". Buying expensive bras, inserts, etc. I'm really rather tired of it.

I've met with a surgeon so I'm aware of the cost, etc. I want to hear from real women that can tell me their real experience.

To deter a few expected comments, let me say these few more things: my husband is VERY happy with whatever I choose to do (he loves me as I am), I'm not considering going too big-hopefully not even big enough that anyone would notice, these would not be "for show".

Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I had my breasts done about 10 years ago, and I don't regret a second of it :) I decided to get them done for much of the same reason that you are considering it - I felt "unbalanced" between my top and my bottom. I was a 32 A and I am now a 32 C/D (depending on the bra maker). The one thing that really helped me decide to go no larger than a large C was finding a 32D is difficult and a 32DD is nearly impossible unless you are special ordering. I was also concerned that if I gained weight as I got older, my breasts would gain weight as well, pushing me to a cup size I wouldn't want. I would highly recommend the submuscular implants versus the ones that just lay on top of the muscle. The healing time is alot longer with the submuscular, but well worth it - they look and feel alot more natural. I have my incision in the crease where the bottom of my breast meets my rib cage and you can barely notice it at all. However, if I had to go back and do it again, I would pick through the armpit or bellybutton if the option was available (I decided against going through the nipple back then and still wouldn't today). No one would ever notice my scars, but I do :) I would say that the only downfall that I have experienced is some loss of sensation in the nipple and around where my scar is. The chance is there, I was well aware of it, some people have more or less feeling loss than others, mine is on the higher end of the scale.

My only other advice is if you are thinking of going to a small C/large B, I would go bigger. They say that over 80% of women who have implants wish within 2 years of their surgery they would have went a cup size bigger. I think that we tend to not want to go "to big" because society tells us that is "slutty" to wish for big breasts. I am certainly not saying that you should Pamela Anderson yourself - just don't set yourself up for disappointment.

Good luck!

I was meant to respond to you because I am new to MamaSource and have never even read a question yet, and this morning I had time & read a few & there was yours!

It is the best decision I have ever made (aside from my choice of husband). It was worth every penny, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

That's the bottom line, here's a little of how I got there. I am 5/4", petite, and always an "A" or "Barely A". It bothered me, but not to the point that I would have done anything about it. Then came 3 children.

My "Barely A's" disappeared. It caused such frustration with clothes, bathings suits, even feeling sexy with my husband. I felt like I was 10 years old. He did not care at all, and when I asked about the idea of surgery, he said that was totally up to me, he knew how frustrated I stay over it, and would support me if I wanted to do something about it, but that he loved me exactly the way I was.

So I called the surgeon, had a consultation, he explained how most of his clients are moms who have nursed and reconstructive surgeries. I spent the next week hauling in clothes & swimsuits that I wouldn't wear as I was and stuffed those little babies in my bra and presto! I was a new woman. A WOMAN.

Like you, I decided to go very subtle, I am now a "Barely B". And just as you mentioned, no one even noticed. A year or so later a friend said to me, "I just want my boobs to look like yours", and I replied, "Well for the low, low cost of $5,000 they can!" She was speechless. She had no idea.

Lady at work just had implants. One implant was flipping around... so she had to have a second surgery and had to pay for the anesthesia for that. (an extra 5000 dollars on top of original implant cost of 12,000) She also said that she wished the surgeon had told her about the scars she would have.
She did not think about complications and that she would have to pay for the second surgery to correct them. All in all it was NOT worth it for her.

Hi S.,
it's almost sound like you are defending yourself for desire to look and feel better about yourself. You don't have to!For whatever reason you are doing this-it is your decision and your choice!
I had implants years ago(6-7)and this was the best money I've ever spent(except my precious little baby that due in a few weeks via IVF).My experience with implants was very smooth and uneventful, they look great and feel soft and real(I went with 34 C under the muscle armpit incision)and even my friends don't know I have them(not that I keep it in secret,it just never came up)Recovery was fast-I was digging in my garden 2 days after the surgery. The most unpleasant thing was that you'll have to massage them regularly for at least a month to prevent scar tissue from forming around implants. You'll look great in everything-swim suit, open dress, etc(after they heel and drop and settle on place a little.Good luck!
