I just had my 4th child and am looking for a new birth control method. I've had the copper IUD and go endometriosis. I had the merena IUD and it perferated my uterus and I had to have it surgically removed. I don't mind taking the pill but it is too easy for me to get baby hungry and stop taking it. I think we are done having children but I'm not ready for anything permanent yet. So, my question is has anyone used Implanon and how has it worked for you? Or, what other form of birth control is good that won't be easy for me to not use when I get baby hungry? I don't want anything permanant.
thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank You all for your responses. I decided to go ahead and get the Implanon and so far am loving it. It did decrease my milk supply for a couple of days but I worked through it.I have noticed my appetite increased a little and I'm a little more tired but that could be from being a mother to 4 kids ages 6 and under. It's nice to have one less thing to worry about.

Dear J. S.,

I was married for almost 12 years before my active duty husband and I had children. We now have 2 wonderful girls, 8 & 4. We used the Norplant and I had a great experience with it. My cycles were longer, which was fine with me. Only draw back was my period would last longer than normal, sometimes 10 days to 2 weeks. It was never heavy but enough that I would need a pad. It was a great birth control mode for 5 years (or 50,000 miles we would jokingly say) Insertion and removal were relatively easy-local anesthesia was required. Think long and hard if you want the 5 year limits though. You sound as though you wouldn't mind another child, wouldn't we all. Due to our age we decided 2 were enough for us. We are 47 & 49 now.
Best of luck with your decision.

Make your husband responsible for using condoms EVERY time, and then your temporary, fleeting desire to have another baby won't enter into the picture.

Oh my goodness! I had the Mirena because I cannot take BC pills. I never had any trouble with it. How frightening!

I have no sound advice, considering that, but I do hope you find a safe alternative!! :-)

Hi! I am an older mother and my children are grown. I still have all the parts to have another child but I am a grandmother now and really don't want to start over. I also have problems with my periods, so my doctor suggested the depo provera shot (because of my age I cannot take the pill). I go down every 3 months and get a shot in the stomach (sounds bad but it really doesn't hurt). This has worked great for me. I haven't had a period in over a year now and don't have to worry about getting pregnant. And the great thing is I haven't had any side effects. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I use the Nuva ring, and it's great. You put it in once a month, and take it out for the week of your period. So easy and it has been just as effective a the pill. It's basically a soft silicone ring you place in your vagina filled with the same hormones as the pill that it releases slowly over a month.

Hi. I just started the using the Nuva Ring 2 months ago and love it! Check out the website. It even has a downloadable icon that reminds me when to remove it and insert the new one. I have had no side effects. It can come out during sex, but it just gives us a reason to laugh.

It sounds like Depo might be a good choice for you, since it's a single dose that lasts 3 months. Be careful though there are some side effects like mood swings and weight gain.

Of course you can also do natural family planning, but if you're not sure about more you may want something a little more fool proof.

The Nuva Ring is also pretty good, but can be taken out easily.

Best wishes.

I take the depo prevara (sp) shot. You go down once every 3 months and it takes a few months after the last shot wears off before you can concieve again. I love having something that I only have to take every few months and not have to rememeber to take on a daily basis. (Because both my husband and I are so fertile, this is also the ONLY form of birth control my doctor will allow me to take.)

Hi J., I'm Shaena. I just had my second baby on Oct 25th, 2007. I, too, wanted birth control that would last and be more permanant. I wanted Mirena but my insurance wouldn't cover it. I decided to go with Implanon. I got it in December and ever since then I've had morning nausea like I'm pregnant again, terrible unregulated periods with the nasty brown stuff, endless almost ALL THE TIME spotting. I would not recommend it to anyone. As far as putting it in goes, it wasn't so bad. It bruised a lot. Go read some reviews on it online. I read them after I got it..Dumb. haha. Most of them were bad.

Try the Nuva Ring. I had the copper IUD but it made my PCOS come back bad. So he gave me the prescription for the Nuva ring. Says it is safe and one ring can last up to a month instead of having to change it out every week. just change it when you want/need a period again.
