I learned of this site awhile back. It seems to give you an unbiased look at how the movie received its ratings without spoiling the movie...

Hope this helps.
I was just wondering if any of you moms went to see the movie "Igor" this weekend. I have a 5 year old daughter who wants to see this but it is rated PG and I am concerned about any scary content. I have looked it up and it shows it is rated PG because of some scary images. She loves anything to do with Halloween unless it is the really scary stuff. I wouldn't let her watch "Monster House" because I thought it would be too much for her. But "Shrek" is also rated PG and she watches it all the time but there is nothing really scary about it. If any of you moms saw it this weekend or know of anyone who did can you please let me know if there is anything I should be concerned about. I would like to take her to the theater to see it but wouldn't want to get up during the movie and leave after paying for it. I could wait for the DVD and review it myself but who knows when it will come out! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Common sense media is an awesome website. they even email you when a new movie comes out so you can look at the ratings b/f you go.
this movie was quoted as "on" for 6+ and they gave it 3 out of 5 stars. "Mad-scientist comedy is fine for younger kids." ...there are a few episodes of mild peril and cartoonish violence. Evil scientists' monstrous creations fight each other and at one point lose control and threaten the inhabitants of the kingdom where the movie takes place.
Sexual Content: A buxom woman flirts with evil scientists; two characters fall in love.
Violence: Monsters wreak havoc, mostly against other monsters. The rest of the world is threatened by a yearly onslaught of monsters. An immortal suicidal rabbit seriously injures himself, knowing he can't die. An evil scientist is crushed, and another one dies in an explosion.
Language: Mild insults: "idiot," "stupid," "failure," etc.
Social Behavior
The movie's message is that just because people think you're a monster doesn't mean you to have meet their low expectations -- and that we can all choose to rise above and be good.
Thanks so much for asking this question! I wrote down all the websites given in previous answers and plan on checking them out before taking my youngest to any future movies. Wish mamasource.com was around 20 years ago when my older kids were babies!
I took my 10 year old, 4 year old and 2 year old. They all seemed to like it. I thought it was stupid. It reminded me of The Night before Halloween or what ever that movie was called. It is very gloomy. There were a few parts that could be a little scary but none of mine thought it was.
Another good site is screenit.com. I have a 13 year old and we look at all pg13 movies on this site before she can see them.
I was told it was like the nightmare before christmas a little iffy
OMG I HATED HATED HATED HATED it!!!
I REALLY though it was WAY to dark and the things they said to each other in the movie were just mean. plus there are way to many physcial sexual overtones between the "evil girlfriend" and the other male charactures...
90% of the movie is dark and talks about killing, murdering and evil and one character says to another "you have an ugly face" just to name one thing she said that was mean to Eva. that is just not good for any one to be exposed to and think its ok. I felt uncomfortable in the movie but my son did not want to leave and I did not want him to throw a fit since he was getting to go to the movie as a reward for good behavior at school (ironic since the movie is about a town that has contests to see who is the most evil scientist) . I kept thinking it was going to get better but it was only "happy and sweet" for about the last 10-20 minutes if that.
I would NOT suggets this movie, my son is 5 and it was a scary for him but most of all if you are a parent worried about exposing your child to behaviors that are not nice and inappropriate then this in NOT the movie for you.
I know you can't shield your kids from everything but I for one do not want to pay to have my child sit in front of a screen and have meaness shoved down his throat with a splash of niceness thrown in for good measure at the end. kids are very impressionable and I just thought it was a bad movie. I really liked "eva" and Igor could have been made sweeter but it just is not worth it- PASS

My boys and I saw it this weekend. I was very disappointed. I usually review all movies at www.pluggedinonline.com, but didn't this time.
My almost 5 year old and I had to leave the theater half way through because he was scared. My 8 and 6 year old stayed in the theater with my parents but said in the end they didn't like the movie. On top of that there were several sexual innuendos (some not so subtle).
I would say wait until it is out on DVD...
This is why I love my Netflix subscription. I just wait for the DVD to come out and preview it then. It has really helped us out on some of those "iffy" movies. Example, Monster House..my son wanted to see this when he was 6 yrs old (now 8) and I am SOOO glad that I saw it first...talk about scary for a child!!!
FYI, we saw The Clone Wars and it was very good for my 8 yr old son. He did not move through the whole movie. I actually enjoyed it and I am 35 LOL.
M.,
I also suggest using http://www.pluggedinonline.com/. I never take my kiddos to any movies without first checking them out at Plugged In Online. It's really great at really breaking a movie down and telling you EXACTLY what to expect.
Good luck!

My friend went to see this movie tonight and said that not only is the movie not age appropriate for her son (who is also 5) but the previews before the movie were not very age appropriate.
My 3 year old daughter LOVES Shrek, but my friend said it was nothing like that and she wouldn't let her boy watch it.
I hope this helps.
I just wanted to say thank you for asking this question, and thanks to the moms who answered it. I'm so glad I read the reviews before taking my 5 year old daughter to see it!!
I took my 8 and 9 y/o to see this movie last weekend. I thought it was very very dark. Not alot of fun for a kid. My kids thought it was funny in some parts, but I personally wouldnt take my younger kid to see it. You may want to see it yourself before you take her.
Hi-
We saw it the day it came out and it definitely has some scary stuff. I think it is more for 10-11 year olds rather than 5-6 year olds. My son is only 6. I am not happy with myself for taking him. Ugh. He didn't get scared, but he actually lost interest about half way through and had more fun playing with the seats at the theatre (we were the only ones in the top 15 rows of seats).
Just my two cents,
