Ideas Needed from Creative Minds...

My 6yr old son’s camp has at least a couple of theme days a week when they are asked to participate. They had a crazy hair day which was easy enough. Today was Halloween in July which was difficult to come up with something because it’s been so hot out. They have an 80’s Day and a Hippie Day coming up. I find many of these are easier for girls but not to much for boys. Any ideas for an 80’s Day and a Hippie Day for a 6yr old boy to wear on a hot day at camp?
Thnx in advance.

Hippie day is easy, tye dyed t-shirt and cut off jeans... bare feet or sandals, and a bandana on the head, peace sign necklace tops it off... you can find really good older looking clothes at the goodwill stores...

For Hippie Day, you and your son can make your own tie-dye t-shirt! The cut off shorts and beads are a great idea, too. Maybe find a big peace sign for a necklace and 'John Lennon' type sunglasses.

80's day - can you spike his hair into a mohawk? Maybe color it a funky color (80's punk, Billy Idol-ish). Clip on earrings, re-use the cut off shorts (!), black tee shirt with the sleeves either rolled up or cut off. The rubber bracelets are popular again, so maybe get some of those for him to wear.

This is so timely because I'm celebrating my 40th next weekend with an 80's themed birthday bash!

For the guys: tropical print Jams shorts (any crazy swim short will do), a matching pastel polo with a popped collar (the collar flipped up) and some boat shoes, untied and knotted at the ends. Think Spiccoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Or: Men's pants cut off into capris, rolled cuffs, big white t-shirt and a man's suit vest. With a fedora to top it off and Chuck Taylor All-Stars high tops with the ankles flipped down. Think Duckie from Pretty in Pink.

Or: a white linen suit with a t-shirt underneath and loafers with no socks. Think Miami Vice. Linen shorts might do it, too. Oh, and don't forget the aviator sunglasses to complete the look!

Have a blast! On a 6 yo, these outfits would be hysterical!!!

Crazy Hat Day! Must be some sort of headwear that would have been around during those time periods. That will cover 80's day and Hippie day. I remember headbands during Hippie dayS (YES guys wore them) and in the eighties they started wearing baseball caps all the time with ponytails outside (um yes the guys again if I have my time frame right). Anyway, you can get some cheap hair stuff at walgreens.

hippy day will be easy lol. just thing shaggy from scoobie doo go to a second hand store and get a tie died shirt and put it with some loose shorts and floppy sandles put a head band around his head and your good to go

80's day maybe a little harder but i second the bright colors thing. really bright colored polos with the colors turned up and shorts would be fine. the spiked up hair. i think i would skip the eyeliner though if its hot it may run and get in his eyes

Hippie day is easy enough...cut off (way above the knee) levi shorts, no shirt, thongs and a bandana, maybe throw on some beads or peace sign emblem somewhere and your done! FYI-To this day this image still reminds me of my father:)

80's day...IDK? Bright neon colors that don't really match each other and some high-top reeboks or any other shoe?

For 80's day he could wear some aviators and neon colored swim trunks with flip flops or converse style sneakers.

For hippie day he could wear a blousy/loose fitted button up shirt undone w/ sleeves rolled up with ripped jean shorts and some beaded necklaces.

You're in luck... because the 80's are back (sigh). If your son has any garish, bright colors (like turquoise or hot pink) in his wardrobe... break them out. Preferably pair them with black & white. Then break out your eyeliner and "do" his eyes.

Big hair was popular in the 80's for boys as well as girls.... So if he's got anything longer than a fade/crew cut throw some gel in it and repeat "crazy hair day". If he's got short hair go Springsteen and tie a red bandana around his forehead.

Cutoff jean shorts are another winner.

Good luck.

For myself... I've used pliers to zip up my jeans. Never, never, EVER again.
