No it will not work. You need a photo ID. The paper they give you from the DMV will not be accepted. Do you have a passport? You could use that.
I have a flight booked for Thursday and I can't seem to find my license...again. This isn't the first time so i think I might find that it fell out of a pocket and is in the most random place. I'm convinced that it will turn up. However, in the event that it doesn't, I am told that I can go to the DMV on Wednesday and get a printout of my license (and have to pay a fee). Does anyone with experience know for sure that this will be sufficient for airline security? Thanks!
I do have my old license and a passport- both in my maiden name...

When my husband lost his ID, the airline said you would not be denied boarding, but you would have to have all your bags examined and go through extra security.
Greetings R.: I know that you can pay extra and get a new card right away. Since you are traveling with a baby be sure to have the childs birth certificate with you. My daughter in law and son have taken their child on several flights and have needed it to show just in case they have to prove the child was theirs and not stolen. This might be an issue for you if you have no id.
Good Luck, Nana G
I'm not sure about the DMV but if you have a passport that will definitely work.
I'm in a similar situation and just went to DMV last week. What I got was a paper temporary license without a picture. Fortunately, I have another form of ID with a picture, so I don't think it will be a problem, but the lady at DMV did say she believes my permanent replacement will be here in time for my trip (by July 1st). I would definitely contact the airline and find out what they will or will not accept.
Do you have a passport? That might work.
Hi R.,
I had the same problem 2 yrs ago and I called the airline. They said it wasn't a problem it just might take longer going thru security. They had to go thru my bags but it wasn't too bad. Leave extra time so u won't miss ur flight. It couldn't hurt to call the airline or airport and see if this has changed. I was still able to go on my trip and had no problems @ the Ontario, CA airport. (I flew out of sacramento).
Best of luck and hav fun!
I would call your airline to be sure.
I would go to the DMV today and not wait. You may get busy and run out of time, or you could get stuck in a long line! Besides once you have the replacement in hand, the real one will turn up. I think your ID needs to have a photo on it. If you do not have the original license, be prepared for extra security. My husband flew with a license that was 2 days expired, and they took him aside for additonal screening. Give yourself extra time. Or you can use a passport. And Check with the airlines first, before you go to all that trouble. Good luck!
I had to use one of the DMV printouts before and I had no problem. This was back in 2002 though, but after 9/11. Do you have a passport?
You can go to the TSA's website to see ID requirements.
Generally, you willl need a govt issued picture ID. Do u have a passport? If not call ur airline and what can be done.
Good luck
Hi R.,
I do believe it is required to have a picture ID or passport. If I/m not mistaken those are the only acceptable forms of ID for flying unless you are under 1yr of age, then a birth certificate is ok. My daughter-in-law just flew with our grandson. He only had to have a birth record, she was also required to bring a copy of her marriage certificate, cause she has not changed her name on her id yet......WAIT...I did fly with no id card...I can't remember if it was before or after 9/11....but they did double & triple check me.....I had to go thru the security check.
Good Luck, I hope you are able to work it out...

Please allow extra time at the airport, without a goverment issued ID you can get on a flight, but you will have to go through additional screening. Most likely your bag will be searched and they will pat you down, so try not to take a ton of stuff with you through the checkpoint. Help the process by staying calm, and bring any ID you may have. Examples: picture ID from work, social security card, some mail with your name and address on it, any combination will help. I work at an airport, so I know. Good Luck in finding your ID.
No idea about a dmv printout (although if it has your picture and everything on it, it should be fine) but you CAN actually fly without ID. My husband once lost his ID while on vactation and was able to fly without it... they just taking you into the back extra security place. They do all these extra tests for gun powder residue and actually open up your bags, but you do get to fly. For us, it was actually faster than waiting in the regular security line!
Good luck
