Try some powder cleanser such as Comet, Ajax or a store brand. Mix with a little bit of water and the grease will come right off.
Good luck - S.
How in the world do you get (and keep) your oven hood free of grease and splatters with out scrubbing your hands off!! My hood is white and it shows EVERYTHING! The grease hardens and becomes impossible to get off. I use oven cleaners when I clean the entire stove. But becasue of the smell, I need something that is safe to use everyday and that cuts the grease !! Any suggestions...

Dawn Power Dissolver works good or use Dawn dishwashing liquid straight on a nylon coated sponge. The sooner you clean it the easier it will be to remove. Also, Easy Off makes a fume free version that works quite well for cleaning the oven. Greased Lightning is a great product for removing grease also, but can damage some surfaces, read the directions carefully.
Good Luck,

Ok, I'm such a geek that I actually got excited when I read this, because I was having the same issue and looked online. So, the answer is Ammonia. I take off the burners and pieces, put them in gallon size ziplocs, full of Ammonia, then put them in a garbage bag, or bucket b/c sometimes it will leak and leave them over nite in the garage, because the smell is so strong obviously, then the next morning I take a sponge and clean them off, it all comes right off, seriously, it's amazing. So, I'm sure if you used a diluted solution and sprayed it on, then left it on the hood for some time it would rub right off. I also know people who put a container filled with Ammonia in their oven over night and then the next morning it wipes right off. Hope that helps
I own a cleaning business, Clean Start Services, and we have found that Goo Be Gone works best at removing grease on all surfaces especially exhaust hoods. After you have thoroughly cleaned it, maintain it with a solution of Dawn dishsoap and water. You may need to use a razor blade to remove baked on areas. Keep the blade at an angle of approximately 20 degrees and the surface wet.
I used to do make-readies for an apt complex in Texas. What I used everytime may sound strange but it definately works. I used Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner. Just spray it on and let it sit for a minute. Wipe it off with a paper towel or wet washcloth. Let me know if this helps.

I just use soap and water with a little bleach.
How about simple green? It's a safe product and doesn't smell bad. I get it at Wal-Mart.
Wow - these are great answers! I have the same problem too. I started wiping it down daily, w/soap and water when I clean my counters, and if I keep up with it daily, the grease doesn't build up, but every once in awhile, it still needs a good scrub - personally, I'm going to try the Scrubbing Bubbles suggestion!
Try baking soda and a magic eraser.
