discoveryhealth.com have a weight lose section that gives you want to eat that day and what kind of exercise to use and its free. I havent really gotten to try it myself, as I found out I am pregnant again, but it would be something perfect for me, as I pretty much need to know exactly what to eat. Good Luck!

There has already been some really good advice from the others - I just want to reiterate some of the main points... First of all, I have heard that Weight Watchers works wonders and it has worked for many of my friends & family.

I didn't want to pay someone to tell me what I already knew (eat less, exercise more) and instead tried to figure out how best to implement those rules. A FOOD JOURNAL is definitely the best way to go. I carried around a notebook and wrote everything in it... even the sugar/creamer in my coffee, even an after-dinner mint - EVERYTHING.

My rules were to eat around 1600 calories each day, drink more water, and always eat breakfast, even if it's just a PopTart (I've never been a breakfast eater). When you write down what you eat, you become so much more aware of portion control. I didn't cut out carbs or cut out salt or cut out sweets or anything like that - just watching my calories & portions.

I wish you luck!

I can certainly understand the challenges of balancing kids, motherhood, the duties of a wife, and personal time. Don't be too hard on yourself and realize the tomorrow is another day. I think it is good to set realistic goals and small ones to start. Like say you will exercise for 1/2, 2 or 3 times per week. Try to pick a time when you know you are motivated and/or the kids are napping. Dance to music if that is all you have time to do. Weight lifting is also a major weight loss component so try to do some musle building. It can be as simple as using rubber bands or light free weights. Good luck and hope you find that balance.

I am with ya S.! I know what to do, it's just a matter of making myself do it. I use my 6 year old son as an example. If he wants to go for a walk we go. I try to eat only the amount of food he eats, maybe a little more. If he wants to play tag, we play. Kindof hard sometimes I just don't have it in me. But I know you have heard before- less intake and more output. Smaller portions more action. Not saying I am doing much good myself, but I do know what I should be doing.

too much to read through, forgive me if I'm repeating.

I HIGHLY recommend the "Good Mood Diet" (it's a book). It's not gimmiky like so many diets can be - it stresses sensible portions, moderate activity etc (duh), but the thing I really liked about it is it's very specific, THIS is what a reasonable portion is - this is what you need to be eating and when to eat it (basically how much protein, fats, vegetables, fruits, starches etc you should eat at each meal). She stresses that you need to eat every 2.5 hours. (that's a LOT!) I am RARELY hungry in between - she has you eating tons of food, and the weight comes off so quickly. But more important than the weight is that you feel GOOD when you follow this plan. and I mean GREAT - more energy, fewer cravings, your appetite is sated... even if I hadn't lost weight, I would still recommend this book

and...I stopped craving sweets, and if you knew me you would know what a huge deal that is (I could easily eat a whole bag of oreos without even thinking about it... yikes)

The problem with most diets is that you can't do them forever. You lose 10 pounds and then... "reward" yourself by eating whatever you want... and quickly gaining it all back. Why even start a diet if you can't maintain your weight once you drop the extra pounds? You must find a way to maintain a healthy weight without time-consuming means because YOU'RE BUSY with 3 kids!! :)

Seven years ago I attended a weight loss class through church. It was the perfect solution to yo-yo dieting. I know this is going to sound crazy but this is what you need to do... only eat when you're hungry (don't even eat if it's meal time if you're not hungry). Stop eating when you're "politely full". Pay attention to your stomach and eat slowly (apparently there's a 20 min delay between feeling fill and getting full). If you excercise a lot, your body will tell you you need more food by getting hungry, if you don't excercise, you need less. You'll find that when you eat sugary, fatty foods, you fill up REALLY fast. If you eat light foods, you can eat more before you fill up. I choose to eat food that tastes good but eat less. :) If you let yourself go hungry for a little while, you're body will starting eating your extra weight. Seems too easy, huh? I thought so too but I lost the weight and have kept it off for 7 years, eating foods I like - there are no light or sugar-free foods in my house. In the beginning, it was hard for me to change how I thought about food - I wanted to eat everything in front of me because it tasted good. I would have to get up from the table and throw away the rest of my hamburger so I wouldn't eat it. Now I hardly think about it. I hate the feeling of being overly full.

Your body knows when you need "fuel" and makes you feel hungry, it knows when you're full and makes you feel full. You can't rely on a label or points to know when you're hungry and how much food you need to feel full. When you think about it, doesn't that seem crazy?

If you like what you're eating and don't want to stop, package it up and eat it tomorrow. Why worry about throwing away $3 worth of food because you're full, and then pay Weight Watchers $10 a week to tell you to stop eating your $3 worth of food?

We often times eat when we're feeling lonely, depressed, anxious, etc. Why? Food doesn't love you back. Only God can fill that hole in your life consistantly and lovingly.

Sorry for the long-winded response! I just hope this helps! It sure helped me!!

My husband and I subscribed to myfooddiary.com. It helps you to track what you're eating, calories, fat content, sodium, etc. We switched to buying everything low sodium and actually looking at the labels of what we buy. (sometimes the low fat options aren't always better, they might have more calories for example.) I also started preparing more food rather than buying "box dinners" or "frozen meals." This way I could control what's in our food. There is a great recipie section, but you really have to search to find "kid friendly" options. I have a few recipies that we use a lot, as well as the nutrition facts. If you're interested email me at ____@____.com and I can send you them.

S., I to am tring to lose the weight and right now I am tring the alli plan it's ok but I will tell you the best thing for losing weight is to write down everthing you eat or journal it I am on a 1800cal. diet and only 19 grams of fat a meal well I eat more like 9-12 grams of fat a meal and I have 2 non-fat smoothys a day or low fat but I have also the night before kind of packed a lunch bag of what I will eat the next day and that way I don't go to the pantry or frig. I eat only what I have packed myself (yes even though I am at home it just helps) Here is one of my smoothy recipies.
1/4 cup pitted black cherries (fresh or frozen are good)
1 6oz fat free yogart (I use black cherry I like targets brand)
2-3 TBS fat free whipped topping (again I like target brand)
8oz of apple juice (or juice of your choice)
1 tsp of sugar if you like
then about 1 cup of Ice (you can use more to make it a little less thick if you like)
blend till smooth
Here is a big tip make it special by putting it in a fancy glass that way it makes it look like a treat and makes you feel special. But I do wish you the best of luck. I lost 10lbs the fisrt 2 weeks working on the next 10lbs I need to try to lose 50 to 70 lbs so I do feel your pain and just wish you the best but no mater what your kids love you!!!

I too have been on diets but after the first twenty pounds comes off I can't lose anymore than that. My doctor still consider me overweight as well. I try not to keep the food around. If you don't buy them than they aren't there to eat. Once my kids go to bed I snack. I use carrot sticks, cucumbers etc. to snack on at night. If you drink a lot of pop that does it too. I love Mountain Dew and on Weight Watchers that is 7 or 8 points! So the diet sodas are the best. I can't stand Diet Mountain Dew but Diet Dr Pepper tastes the same as regular Dr. Pepper or Diet Sprite too. We've started taking morning walks. My husband works second shift so he is home in the mornings. Before it gets too hot we take a walk around the neighborhood, all the kids come too. Simply parking farther away from stores, malls, rest. etc. helps too. Oh, when i cook I constantly eat too. I have a sweet pickle here, grab a string cheese here, eat two pretzels there...and by the time the food is done I'm full! I found Sourdough Pretzel Nibblers made by Snyders that are 0 Trans fat and they still taste good! We buy light butter, light sour cream, etc. Take the extra time in the grocery store looking over options rather than grabbing and going. I go to the store right after dropping off my kids at school so I can take the time. In the summer my husband stays at home with the kids so I can go alone. Don't go grocery shopping hungry either. Skip the candies and the snacks section. The healthy stuff you won't find with the Little Debbie snacks!

S.,

I don't like the word diet...when ever i start to think about weight and the word diet it seems like I gain weight. What worked for me is to stop saying diet and say life change. Also I started to like me for me ...not my body that is not who I am. I started to tell myself that I deserve to take care of myself and love myself. God loves me and He love YOU. Also another thing that helped was to stop comparing myself with others (still walking this one out). When I started to get all of this in balance with God it was a lot easier to take care of myself: exercise, eat well, sleep ECT.
Hope I helped and God Bless.

Hey S.,

I know exactly how you feel. There has been a lot of good advice so far, but I thought I would add my two cents. After my second child I really needed to lose some weight. My husband and I both went on the Body for Life. This is all about portion control. I always felt like I was eating on this one since they recommend you eat 6 meals a day. It was great I actually lost 25 pounds and three months and my husband lost 35. It has been a lot harder to take off the weight after my third child he was an emergency c-section, shouldn't be hard--but it has been. I would recommend getting someone to do it with you--helps to have your husband doing this along side you. This is also a change in your life style. What he (Bill Phillips) is trying to teach you is to change your life style. I would love to keep in touch with you and help if for nothing else than to cheer you on. Hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if you ever need some cheering up and someone to cheer you on to reach your weight goal. My email is ____@____.com I wish you the best of luck.

Hi S.,

I am doing Weight Watchers right now. It is the only thing that has ever worked for me. You can eat whatever you want as long as you stay within your points, and every week you are accountable to the scale at the meetings. It helps so much to have that weekly thing there and know where you're at. You don't lose weight fast, but it's easier to maintain because you are eating differently. It doesn't feel like a "diet." I started cooking differently as well. My whole family eats the way I eat, or they can cook for themselves. :)

What I found useful is east less amount and exercise regularly. I didn't have to stop eating my favorite food, but just eat less. Also, stop eating kids' leftovers (what lost of moms do).

I joined YMCA to exercise. Then have a child watch center where you can leave your kids there for two hours. Then you have two hours of peace to work out your body. I found when I exercise regularly, I feel less like eating and have more energy, which is another benefit of exercise. It's good for your long-term health too. Also, the guilt of paying the monthly membership fee keeps me going back.

People tend to eat more when they are stressed (for us moms, stressed out by the kids). Exercise reduces the stress and leads to less eating.

I hope you get motivated to start exercising. Good luck.

Hi S.,
I know how hard it is to lose weight. One thing I have recently found is Hoodia XPF, this has helped a lot with the constant picking and eating all the time. I don't know how you feel about something like this but it really helped me stop focusing on how much I want to eat all the time. You can look it up online. I hope this helps some!

I totally understand where you are coming from S.. I'm currently trying to lose weight as well. I have found that diets never work so what I'm doing and what has been working at the moment is counting my calories (I'm trying to keep them between 16-1800 for a day). I'm also trying to be smart about the amount of carbs that fill those calories. For example in stead of two slices of bread for a sandwich I have a tortilia wrap instead. So far doing this I have lost a little over 50 lbs and have 100 more to go!!! I fit excercise when I can and I do try to keep track of what I'm eating in a small journal that fits in my purse although I haven't been very good about that. If you have a palm pilot there is a program that you can download to it that would take place of the journal and it keeps track of the calories as well. Hope this helps.
