1 year ago i weighed 251lbs, i now am down to 140lbs. I started going to Glory Medical. Their weight loss program is amazing & affordable! I am soooooo glad i am doing this & would reccomend it to everyone. The only exercise i do is 30mins of walking a day & sometimes not even that. The web site has a lot of info & if you call, the staff is very helpful. Glorymedicalcenter.com. (Im on the site under pics, but have lost 35 more pounds since that pic was taken) ###-###-####. Good luck! I was hopeless & Glory changed my life!!! Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Hi there! If you can afford it I'd reccomend getting a personal trainer. That's what I did after I had my first son, and I lost 80lbs in 5 months. For me, it helped a LOT having someone to hold me accountable, and the weigh ins every week kept me going because I knew she would yell at me if I was slacking...lol. After I lost all that weight I got pregnant again, my second son is 16 months old and I still have 30lbs left to lose, and now I can't afford the trainer and I can't seem to get myself going. Good luck!!!

don't do it quickly because you'll just gain it all back and more.......water, walk (fast) or some kind of exercise every single day for 30 min., and cut out as much sugar & bread as you can without feeling deprived......it takes two weeks to drink coffee without sugar and not notice it is gone.....try it......and water -- drink water....and give yourself a break -- destress.
Happy, destressed people who sleep enough -- lose weight without feeling hungry. When you feel hungry at night, especially, go to sleep! And please, be kind to yourself -- I had 30 extra pounds on for my last pregnancy and it came off pretty fast (although I did breastfeed) and I did all the above. Now 15 or so pounds, and I'll be in pre-babies condition.
p.s. and "diets" never work -- ask Oprah --
it is a lifestyle change.....you need to eat lots of salads, protein -- fruits & vegetables......processed & fast foods should be a thing of the past...and move yourself -- walk quickly -- hand weights are great too!

I go walking with a bunch of mommies each Wednesday at 10:30am. We walk at Tyrone mall and meet by the play area (JC Penny). I have a green Chico stroller, but more often than not I have my 6 month old in my Baby Bjorn.

Best advice is take it one day at a time. Wear your baby in a sling or Bjorn....that's how I've gotten the weight off and spent valuable time with my little guy.

Hope to see you,

S. and Robby

First of all, your weight does not determine who you are. You are beautiful from the inside out. That being said, I think we all know where you're coming from. I think all of us have been where you stand and struggle just the same. I haven't been to the YMCA in 2 month and my energy plummeted and my body I can literally feel turning into mush!

I highly reccomend SparkPeople.com which is a FREE program where you can track your food, calories, and excercise. It makes being healthy fun because it's like a game to get points and rewards and such.

You can look up healthy recipes, or have one mailed to you each day (if you elect to) and I've tried many of them which are very tasty. They also have a "food showdown" email that picks two foods to compare when you're out and about so you know which is a healthier decision. For example: Which is less calories A McDonald's Mcgrilled chicken sandwhich or a McDonalds Crispy Chicken Salad. Real food for real places for real people in real life. They know you're gonna stop at fast-food for lunch, so they make a camparision for you to keep awareness going.

Anyhow, it is hard to lose weight when we are not focused on doing so. We get hungry, we eat, we get mad.

Cut out all the butter and oil you can. Meats can be cooked without those elements, and no they won't be dried out. Spice things up with seasonings, there are lots of good ones out there. Use your grill for a differnt flavor.

This first step is essential. One piece of bread with butter can be over 200 calories! Most of which comes from fat! Yuck!

Cut out sodas and high calorie drinks (Starbucks was my weakness - 27 grams of saturdated fat!).

In the end, you start to make better choices because your eating habits are laid out in front of you on this program. You can see where you goofed or went off track.

It also encourages a cookie during the day or something "sinful." We don't have to give up everything to lose weight which is important to understand.

Diet alone won't do it, so your gymn membership is important, and they will come and get you if they misbehave or if there is a problem. Trust me, I know from experience! lol!

One final thought about spark people: When you sign up it will take you to your calorie counter which has the option to use their menus. Each menu for everyday can be altered with their reccomended alternatives (healthy) or your own! All their food is accounted for with calories and fat, and its normal everyday stuff. Not tofu and weird things like boca burgers.

You can make a shopping list with their menu too!

Anyhow, you asked and that is the best I could answer. If nothing else, buy one of the carriages to hook to the back of your bike and take them for a bike ride! Although your 2 month old may be a little young.. bottom line, get out and start moving! Dance in your living room with your little ones.

The less you move the more depressed you will be. Time to cheer up! We're here to cheer you on!

Lots of Love,
J.

Hi N.,

You've gotten some pretty good advice. I would say that Beata's tips are good. I would stay away from any fast food. Fast food will really mess up weight loss, even the "healthy" stuff. My husband lost 110 pounds 2 years ago and has kept it off because he gets the proper nutrition now... even though at the time he was overweight, he was never an overeater. Your body does amazing things to keep you from starving. And that means it will hoard fat...

Rob lost 60 pounds taking a good vitamin and mineral without changing any eating habits or any activity level. (The next 50 pounds came off with the same vitamin regimen but with added exercise. He ran 3 nights a week.) Goes to show you, when you get good nutrition, your body will adjust itself to where it is supposed to be. The vitamin he is on has a patented delivery system to insure the nutrients get to the blood stream even if the digestive system is not working at it's best. Also you probably need a good vitamin just to keep up with new motherhood.

Email me or call me at ###-###-####. I'd be glad to share everything with you. The vitamins are pharmaceutical grade so the quality is high but they are cheaper than any drug store brand.

Love to hear from you!

It took 9 months to gain that weight, some of us lose it right away others it comes off slowly. are you breastfeeding? breastfeeding tends to slow down that process the body stores the fat for breastmilk ( least that was what a dr told me ) anyway just give it some time, diet but don't go crazy and i say walk take walks with baby every evening and you'll start seeing a lose there or at least some toning.

Good morning!

A year after giving birth to my son I was sick and tired of being overweight. I decided to try the South Beach diet. It was the first diet I was ever really on and it wasn't that bad. I lost 30 pounds and felt great. The meals were easy to make and the diet was easy to follow. I was NEVER hungry because it allows you to eat 3 meals and 2 snacks. I even had dessert. My family wasn't into the meals that I was making because they are super picky eaters but it allowed me to make 4 servings of one meal and I would eat it for lunch or dinner the next few days. It saved me time.

Good luck. Try not to be too hard on yourself. After losing a big portion of the weight on the diet I did join Curves. It was great. All women and and a super easy exercise regimen.

Sincerely,
R.

First of all "don't say the word diet"! The minute you say that word you become very hungry! Try eating more fruits and vegetables. Try eating a small piece of meat with a salad for dinner. Try cutting down on sugars and breads for the most part. Take walks with your hubby and children. Being active is a huge role in weight control. Try eating hummus and vegetables sandwiches (very yummy)for lunch. Eat lots of fresh foods and stay away from the fastfood places. Eat at home! The true best thing to do is change your eating habits by how much you intake at a time and what you are putting into your mouth! If you snack, eat an apple or an orange, grapes, nuts or craisins. Remember that it is not about losing weight but about you and being able to have the energy to play with your children. You can do this without depriving yourself!! I know that you can do this! Make smart choices in eating and being active. You've just had a precious little one so please don't be so hard on yourself. It takes time to lose weight so try and make smart choices when eating. Remember that we eat to live, not live to eat. Congratulations on your new little one.
God bless you,
L. Jacobs

I actually thought up a plan for about a month before starting my diet by taking notes, reading books to get suggestions, doing research on different health foods and exercises and setting up a plan along with a goal in a reasonable amount of time. It's all a mind-set. When I started I had already signed up on fitday.com. That's a website where you can log in what you eat or exercise everyday and it breaks down the calories, fats, etc. You can place your "now" weight and your "goal" weight and it charts it as you go. It's really cool to see your progress along the way. The best thing to do is go a week eating normal just to see what your calorie-intake is now and then depending on what you what it to be on your diet, start cutting back so you don't go over that. It's also important to have one day a week to "splurge". Some books say splurge with a new outfit, a new pair of shoes, but most say splurge with something fattening so you don't feel completely deprived and quit the diet. The way I did it was Saturdays was usually the day that I stayed home and cleaned all day while the guys were out having fun together so my "splurge" was to eat out wherever I wanted that night for dinner and get whatever I wanted. Normally if I ate at McDonald's, I would get a kid's cheeseburger meal w/ the apple slices and water or diet coke (depending on if I had had a diet coke already that day---I limited myself to one a day) but on Saturdays, I was allowed to get the double cheeseburger meal if I wanted. French fries...finally!! lol With my exercise, I started slow and built myself up with walking, lifting weights, cardio, etc. Hope this helps!

My husband has lost 50+ pounds and I've lost 25+ pounds... we started a little over a year ago using a site called www.vitalityforlife.com or www.vfl.com

The key has been to Eat Healthy, Get Active, and Stay Accountable. We've learned so much from the site about balancing our diet... between protein, carbohydrates and fat. It's was amazing to us to see what was in some of the foods we were eating. Now, we've kept the wieght off and still eat fun things, we just keep it all in balance. For me, walking is the easiest way to be active. We walk on the beach once a week, and other days just around the neighborhood. (well, my husband actually runs, but I'm not into running!) The great thing is, our kids have joined us in our new eating habits and although they were not overweight, with all the overweight kids you see these days, it's nice to know they have a new foundation for life and they will be ahead of the game as far as their health goes.

We've learned, take care of yourself now, so you can enjoy your later life also.

Hi N. I need to lose 30lbs too. I feel exactly the same way. I'm not responding cause I have the answers. It's really because I am in the same boat and it's nice to have company. I feel depressed as well. I am so tired all the time and now I'm back at work full time so I really have no idea when I am supposed to go to the gym. I barely see my baby as it is. The only thing I can think of is to wait till the babys start to sleep though the night so you can have enough energy to work out. In my case I may just have to go to the gym after work and have even less time with my baby. I don't know.... I will check back to see what other folks have suggested. Good luck!!

I have been following the Vice Busting Diet and have been very successful. The lifestyle change that is so important is following Good Nutrition. Change is not quick, but it is healthy and should be that way for the rest of your life. You will be successful. I have lost about 40 lbs this year.

The best way I know to balance the diet is by eating more fruits and vegetables. I have been teaching nutrition for years and the only product that I have ever recommended is Juice Plus - it is 100% whole food nutrition - fruits and vegetables in a capsule, a chewable, a gummie bear, and in a powdered protein powder for shakes and smoothies.

Please check out my web-site www.juiceplus.com/+ML81601 where you can learn all about the product, listen to medical professionals, and review our extensive research.

I have a Health Education Meeting next week (11/14) and my speaker is an MD specializing in General Pediatrics and Wholistic Medicine. I would be glad for you to attend. Please contact me.

The best way to lose weight is to make small changes in your diet. Start with getting rid of one bad food at a time. You also have to think about your dietary changes as lifelong health changes rather than a diet. When you cut out a bad food, substitute it with a good food. For example, have fruit for dessert instead of something with sugar. Cutting back on sugar and carbs is going to be your best bet for weight loss. I lost about 6 pounds in two weeks eliminating those two things.

Exercise is important too. Make sure you get enough exercise to keep your metabolism going.

Also, give youself a break. You only gave birth three months ago. It took me awhile to get rid of the extra 30 I was carrying around after the birth of my son.

The YMCA is a good place to start. I know the one where I live has a PEP program where they set you up on workouts and moniter you for 6 weeks for no charge other than your Y fee. You don't say where you live but as for medical weight loss through a Dr.(if you are far enough over your ideal body weight and BMI) I have had a lot of success through Dr Delores Lowe, she is in Plant City (where I live). I know a lot of people that have used her program and done very well. I lost 15 pounds and 4 inches off of my hips my first month with her. My husband lost 20 pounds. Its not for people who just need to lose a little though. I needed to lose about 80 pounds total when I started, I am about half-way there. Its diet, excersize, supplements, and appetite suppressants. I hope this helps, good luck.

I have always struggled with weightloss plans. About 5 months ago, I started looking for something that would work with nursing. All these companies that have pills are out! None of those are kosher for nursing moms. I also wanted to make sure that what I chose to do would give me a lifestyle change so I wouldn't slump back into old habits.

The best I found: Weight Watchers. I had been investigating them when my mom told me my dad had lost 50 pounds in about 4 months and she was up to 35 pounds lost. I knew that whatever they had been doing was working. I asked them about it and with further research found that nursing moms are welcomed with open arms!

I just finished my first 12 weeks last week and have lost a total of 34 pounds and 13.5 inches! I didn't feel like I was starving myself (well, except for the first week where I was getting my body used to it) because I was eating properly and eating filling foods that would keep me full rather than sugar filled stuff that lasts about 20 minutes....

I highly recommend WW! Try a meeting yourself for free, check out the website for a meeting close to you. http://www.weightwatchers.com

I hope this is helpful.

Hi N.! I tried the South Beach diet and found it very easy. The key is to stay focused. I agree with a lot of these comments. I would walk 30 minutes every day (if you are like me that's hard to do some days). The trick is really to find something that works for you that will be easy for YOU personally to stick with. At your age, if you stick with it, you shouldn't have any problems.
Take care and best of luck!!!

My husband and I always recommend to our friends South Beach because that is what works for us. Almost everyone we have told about it has had great success. It is not easy and it is expensive to buy the food because it is mostly fresh veggies and meats but when you start to see the pounds coming off it is well worth it. What we like also is it is not a crash diet. It helps you learn how to maintain the weight loss after the first two weeks which are so hard without sugar and carbs.

Go to the bookstore and look over the book. See if it is something you might be interested in. Good luck!

Hello N., Congratulations on your baby girl! Showing interest of wanting to loose weight, you are on the right track here already. Being healthy, fit, confident and having a lot of energy will allow you to provide better care for your little ones. It's really not about the diet, it's about your life style. By eating healthy and exercising, you are also teaching your children indirectly (especially little girls) about good eating habits. If you are still breastfeeding, please take it easy. Simply add avocado to your salads, sandwiches and snacks. Snack on almonds and cheese. Avocado, almonds and cheese suppress your appetite. Clean up your pantry; limit bad carbs like white bread, pasta and rice, they make you tired, more hungry and it just goes to your waist. If you have to have it, substitute to whole wheat. By switching to green tea from coffee alone you'll loose 10lbs within 3 months. No fruits or juice in the evening, they are all sugars. No meals after 8pm. Drinking water is wonderful! If going to the gym is a challenge for you, running errands, grocery shopping, or window shopping 30 minutes few times a week is a great source of cardio. If you need a work out buddy or any more info, please let me know. Fitting back into my skinny jeans was extremelly important to me, but it does take time. Please allow yourself couple months. By the next summer you will be one Hot Mama! Lots of Luck and Success! Please keep us posted about your progress.

I jsut found this out- TO LOSE ONE POUND, YOU HAVE TO GET RID OF 3500 CALORIES, THAT IS AN AVERAGE OF 500 CALORIES A DAY. Think of your food is what you eat. Look at calories. Is it really worth it to eat it and get further behind????? That is what i have come to think about. Im trying to lose 20 pounds. Have had it since my 4 year old was born. I did some online research, www.slimfast.com is a free online website. It has breakfast shake with something else, lunch shake with something else, make your own dinner, 3 snacks a day. The shake has all the vitamins you need for a healthy diet. Then just keep veggies and fruit on hand with plain yogurt and you have so many possibilities. I just look on the menu for the week and trade it around for what i feel like. Drink lots of water, makes your hunger go away and NO calories!!

I know how you feel. It can be depressing when you just want to look like 'your old self' again. I did Weight Watchers after having both of my sons. It works for me to have the weekly weigh-ins and I get motivation from the meetings. They have 2 different plans you can be on, depending on how you prefer to eat. My son is 20 months old and I've lost 30 lbs so far but I would still like to lose the last 10 lbs, which has been a bit of a struggle. It does help to do some sort of exercise too. I found a series of DVDs based on a walking routine, that I love and can do at home when one son is at preschool and the other is napping. Good luck and remember that you had 2 children in 2 years and it does take it's toll but the weight will come off. You got some great responses from this board and something is bound to work for you!

I am 30 and pregnant with my third daughter. After both of my other girls I had no issues loosing weight, but a few years ago I was put on some medication and it caused me to gain over 50lbs and I could not get the weight off for over a year and a half, I tried everything including all the fad diets. I went to my Dr. and he convinced me that I should go on the diabetic diet, it sounded crazy at first and didn't sound at all like it would work but only three months after committing to it, I had lost 62lbs and was smaller than before. You have to eat the right foods but I promise you are never hungry because you are eating several times a day. In the morning eat something small like a bowl of lowfat cereal like special K with skim milk, a few hours later eat a lowfat yogart, it will be important to get at least three servings of lowfat dairy a day. A little after that grab a hand ful of nuts or something with a good fat. Eat a light lunch like a small bowl of soup and salad with fat free dressing, or a weight watchers meal. A few hours after that have another snack like some fruit or veggies with dip. When dinner comes around eat some good protien boneless skinless chicken, lean beef, or a nice piece of white fish, couple it with some veggies and go easy on the starch. You need to include starch in this diet it's not Atkins, but limit your starch intake to 1 and a half cups a day. It sounds like a lot, but trust me it's not ,so you have to get creative. Eating several times a day like that boost your metabolism and causes you to constantly be burning fat but still have lots of energy. It also keeps you full and helps fight cravings because you are never hungry enough to eat a big meal. You do have to have self control and make sure you are watching your calories somewhat, but It really works if you WANT to loose the weight. I did not have to excercise withvthis diet, but I'm sure if you walked for 45 min 3 times a week, it would help speed up the process and you will loose that 30 before you know it. Don't get discouraged and weigh yourself everyday, some people say that's a bad idea, but it really helps put everything you do into prespective. It encouraged me because almost everyday I would see the number going down and it encouraged me to keep on doing what I was. If the number goes up, then check out what your eating and make sure the calorie content is not too high or your consuming too many carbs. Good luck!!

Hm... it will not be easy... I had my baby in Jan 2007. I was going to stick to a diet, but the lack of sleep and everyone telling me "But you are still breastfeeding, you can't diet" helped me slack and as a result I ganed 10 more pounds after the delivery.
Well, I stopped buying new clothes. I decided if I wear the ugly baggy clothes, it would motivate me to start a diet. One of my students told me that she likes the southbeach diet and she actually brought me the book to check out.
Well, I read the book and understood that it makes sense and its a life style, not a diet.
I lost 20 pounds in 4 months, only because I didn't stick to the 1st stage completely, I altered it, because of BFing. It is my life style now. I feel healthy, fit and I am still loosing weight.
The most difficult is stay on for first 2 weeks.
Good luck.

Hi N.,
I have a two year old and am STILL carrying around extra weight! I'm glad you want to get the ball rolling. What has inspired me, was going to the "Mom's Losing Weight" board on Babycenter.com

You should check out the "Before and After's" photo thread. It really inspires!

At least it did me. They also conduct weight loss challenges pretty periodically, and not to mention they are a great group of gals!

From there I learned of Sparkpeople.com
Its a free website that allows your to track your nutrition, exercise and weight. And its all free!

Also I have heard a lot of good things about Weight Watchers. I have a few friends who have joined and have kept the weight off. Jenny McCarthy has noted that was how she lost her baby weight (they didn't pay her to say that either). From what I've been told they are pretty affordable too.

But for me I have been sticking to Sparkpeople.com in tracking everything.

I started in July and my goal is to be 40lbs lighter by my son's 3rd birthday, in March 2008.

I am already half way there, I have lost 20lbs, 20 more to go.

You have to keep in mind, that it took you 9 months to gain all that weight, its going to take some time to lose it.

I always believe in slow and steady wins the race. It took me 3 months to lose 20lbs, but it shows and it has been staying off.

Just watch what you eat, and walk everyday for a few minutes, that is all I do. I have completely cut out all sodas (I was a Dr. Pepper addict!) and I walk during my 1 hour lunch break everyday at work.

When I'm sitting at my desk at work, I snack on baby carrots (I used to hate carrots!) or some trial mix, or an apple.

I truly believe when it comes to losing weight it is 90% diet choices. Before when I would attempt to lose weight I kept my bad eating habits and exercised more. Of course when I stopped exercising guess what happened? The weight came back.

Keep track of what foods you eat and calories, fat, sugars, carbs are part of your daily intake. You can see how it all adds up! Also a great trick I have used to keep me on track was to always give myself an "OFF" DAY once a week. I don't eat a whole pizza or anything like that. I indulge in something, moderately.

Good Luck!!

P.S. Don't fall for those lose weight quick schemes, or pills and stuff, it does not work for the long term. Weight Watchers/SparkPeople gives you the tools to make a lifestyle CHANGE and keep it off. These others are just a quick fix.

i was told it take nine months to get the weight off and it was true. dont' worry about it so much.
i am not one for diets but one thing i do to suppress my appetite during the day is put cut up fruit on the coutner during the day ready to eat and every time i walk by i grab a piece. it keeps my sugar levels regulated and keeps my sweet craving down. it's the healthiest of snacks.

I have to say that I had some success with South Beach, however, I gained it all back. It's not the best diet to get used to eating in the suggested manner. It's better than Atkins, but there are healthier options. I'm currently doing Weight Watchers, again. It really is the best plan. I've done so many, and this one really works. It teaches you how to eat for life--how to pay attention to portion size, how to eat a balanced diet, how not to restrict yourself from "taboo" foods. You can eat a candy bar if you'd like, you just have to adjust the rest of your diet for the day. The meetings are very informative and it's a supportive community. You should check it out--it works. I just started again, and I'm almost down 10 pounds, should hit it this week. I lot about 35 before my wedding on weight watchers, so I know you can lose larger amounts as well.

Hi N.,

Well - for me I gained more than 50lbs during my pregnancy (my daughter is now 11 months). I have dieted for years and was actually obese during my childhood and finally found something that works. I read a book called the "The Weight Down Diet" by Gwen Shamblin. It is a faith based book that re-teaches you how to eat according to the way God intended - which is eat when your hungry (really hungry - not bored, tired, depressed, or because it's dinner time - but stomach growling hungry) and stop when your full (not when the plate is empty or you have to unbuckle your belt - but comfortably full). I actually eat whatever I am hungry for now (even cake or ice cream) and have lost all of the weight I gained during pregnancy. I was really worried at first that I had gained 50 lbs because I had been over weight my whole life and had gotten to a size 6 before I got pregnant but I really did lose it all and have not even started exercising yet. I wish you Luck with you weight loss!!

Hi! I know a lot of us are in the same boat! After I had my daughter, I lost the weight I gained while I was pregnant, but then gained more weight. I was moody and angry and in a bad mood, but not towards my baby. I went and spoke with my OB< and he ran some blood work. It turned out that I had a thyroid problem. I am now on meds and am feeling better. The extra weight gain and my moodiness was from the thyroid disorder. Now I have a 5 month old and am trying to get to my pre-pregnancy body, dealing with the thyroid problem. I am trying weight watchers.

Hope it helps!
R.

Hi N., I am the mother of four. I had 4 in 6 years. I too needed to loose my belly. I put myself on a diet to reduce. I ate NO bread, canned no sugar fruit, yogurt, no desserts, or junk. I did eat meat, veggies, rice cakes with low fat peanut butter and pasta in moderation. I lost 30 pds in 4 months. I feel soooo much better. I did NOT loose my belly but perhaps never will but I lost all over. I had 4 c-section babies and my tummy muscles are pretty shot. You can do it too. Good luck to you, Dear.

Hi N.

I don't know what your finances are, but I work next to a Yoga place - Birkim I think and they use heat along with stretching. I spoke with lots of people who go there and they all say they feel better for it. One girl told me she had lost 30 lbs w/o changing her diet. Maybe look for places like this for a while to get you started. God bless!
