I Need to Find a Cloth Diaper for My 3 Year Old Bedwetter and I'm So Confused...

I've never bought cloth diapers before but have decided to go with cloth for my potty trained 3 year old who wets the bed at night.
I'm looking online and I'm just getting more confused as I go. I've looked at Kushies and they look like they might work and I love the price, but are they any good? Any other suggestions? Someone suggested Antsy Pants but I'm not paying $90 for 3.

I wanted to add that I'm not worried about her bedwetting at all. I wet the bed until I was 7. Disposables are just giving her an eczema rash on her booty.

What can I do next?

In my experience Kushies will work if she starts to wet and then stops, but are not absorbent enough to hold a full toddler pee. My 5 1/2 year old still wets the bed, so we put him in Happy Heiny's Pocket Trainers at night. They're only $15.95 each. They don't come with inserts but you can stuff them with literally ANYTHING absorbent - even kitchen towels or something. I stuff mine with one microfiber insert and a couple hemp inserts or a hemp prefold. Another thing I like about them is I can stuff them and snap the sides together and then he can put them on and take them off himself, unlike a diaper. Also they go up to very big sizes. He's 45 lbs and a "one-size" cloth diaper would not fit him at this point.

If you have any more questions or would like to see a Happy Heiny's pocket trainer in person, you are welcome to stop by my cloth diaper store, Babies Bottoms and More (www.babiesbottomsandmore.com). We're in Farmers Branch and are open on Saturdays.

Glad I checked this today:) There is a local CD group that can help you out! www.facebook.com/DFWClothDiaperGroup We can help with wash routine, or any other questions you have!

There are 9 local cloth diaper shops, including one in Arlington (www.babyreargear.com - but they are closed as of today, but re-opening on Sunday).

Are you wanting a pull up style, or a regular diaper? And how big is she? That makes a difference on what I might suggest. I have not used Kushies, so I don't have any personal opinion on them.

Here is a training pant that has a stuffable pocket so you can add whatever absorbancy your LO needs http://www.nappyshoppe.com/store/snapez-stuffable-trainer...

I suggest these gFlappers to use in the training pant, since they are super absorbant but very trim (so less bulk) http://www.nappyshoppe.com/store/gflapper™-insert-all-ba...

The Nappy Shoppe is located in Allen.

Baby Rear Gear (in Arlington) has the Knickernappies cloth diaper. It's a pocket, so you can add whatever absorbancy you need. It is very generously sized, so good for older toddlers. It is also sold other places, but this shop is close to you. http://shop.babyreargear.com/Knickernappies-2G-Pocket-Dia...

Let me know if you have other questions!! I am happy to help:)

I bought 2 Thirsties, which have worked great on my baby girl, but never worked on my big 4-year-old bedwetter. In fact, nothing contained the mess when he wet. We tried every disposable, plus the cloth option stuffed full of doublers. All that to say, you might borrow one, or a buy an assortment used to see what works, before you invest.

And although we cloth diaper the baby, so we have enough to do a full load of diapers every three days, I second just tossing your 1-2 cloths into the regular wash. As I'm sure you know, healthy human urine is sterile!

Bethany, Cheyenne wet the bed at night until she was nearly six years old. She has eczema as well, so we struggled with this same situation constantly. What we decided to do was let her wear panties at night, but we bought two waterproof mattress pads (soft on the outside, but waterproof, moisture can't go through it... get it at babies r us, toys r us). We made her bed, put one of the pads under the sheet, one of the pads on top of the sheet, followed by another sheet. If she woke up wet, we would simply take the first layer off and throw it in the washing machine to replace it the next night, and she would still have a layer there.

This accomplished two things for us- it protected her mattress, and since she was wearing panties at night and not pull ups or bulky cloths, it caused her to actually feel wet. Eventually, this helped her learn to wake when she had the urge to pee. It took a couple of months, but it was totally worth it.

The other thing we did, was we would wake her up around 2 am and make her go pee. This also helped her to learn to wake when she had the urge to pee. The problem was that she slept so incredibly deeply that she had never learned to wake during that urge. She's still a crazy deep sleeper- you could shake her and she wouldn't wake. But she does wake up to pee now, thank goodness, she hasn't had an accident in over a year!

Good luck! Hope that helps!

My daughter was cloth diapered from birth to potty training. She was day potty trained for a long time before being night dry.
I used a toddler sized prefold and two doublers (inserts) in a cover for overnights.
Prefolds and inserts are by far the cheapest cloth diaper option, and they're probably the best for you if this is really what you want to do.
HOWEVER, if you are only using cloth at night, you will either end up with wet diapers sitting in a pail for a week until you get enough to justify a laundry load, or you'll be washing a load of laundry with like four or five diapers and their inserts.
If you're thinking about the idea that kids in cloth potty train sooner, that doesn't apply to night training. Night dryness is exclusively a function of bladder maturity and has nothing to do with them feeling wet and not liking it. It has to do with the brain waking up when the bladder has to empty, and this happens when they are old enough. Putting her in cloth overnight will not get her night dry any sooner.
You can get the overnights disposable diapers that should be fine.
Also, I would recommend using diaper rash cream on her overnight as a preventative measure, since if she sleeps through the night and is sleeping in a wet diaper, disposable or not, she'll get a rash. And if you are using diaper rash cream consistently, you want to use prefold diapers. Diaper rash cream is really not compatible with synthetic cloth diapers. With a night diaper you aren't worried about bulk, so prefolds are fine. Since they are the cheapest and they launder best, meaning the diaper rash cream comes out of them the easiest, they are your best choice. BUT I still think that for your situation consider the overnights disposables, unless you have a smaller child also in cloth. If you are alreay laundering cloth diapers, adding the prefolds and inserts won't make much difference.

our 3yr old came home from Ukraine completely unaware of how to use the potty. She was trained in a couple weeks no problem, but wet like crazy at night. We cloth diapered our kids and right now she's waking up dry almost every morning, but I still keep cloth on her because there is once a week or so she wakes up soaked! I use pocket diapers, Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heiny's, Beebers Butts (on Etsy.com), they all work great. She required a stuffer and two doublers if she wets at night.

Look on www.etsy.com for WAHM diapers like Beebers butts, and then find some doublers on there too.

I always wash our diapers with regular laundry since its just pee... not any grosser than the clothes my hsuband brings home from work or the clothes my son wears at school all day full of germs and God knows what else! LOL.
