I agree with the posters who said to try melatonin. My mother went up to 6mg and had problems so it isn't great for some people but you can start low like 1/2mg or up to 3mg (like another poster mentioned).
ok so my 2 yr old has had his days and nights mixed up for a while. Now I have him where he sleeps most of the time. Problem is he can sleep I can't. How do I get me sleeping nights again sleeping pills don't phase me. Perscription sleeping pills don't phase me. Please help I am tired of being a hermit never doing anything cause I am still asleep. I want to be normal again have a life again. Any advice. I would try wiskey but I am afraid of becoming an alcolholic. thanks
well the last 3 nights I had a reasonable bed time 1 am instead of 8 am then 9 pm and 12 pm and up at 9 am. so far so good but keep the ideas coming.

If there is a yoga studio anywhere in your area I highly recommend trying that. When I was taking yoga (just 1 or 2 classes a week) I was so relaxed and could fall asleep so easy.
I have been told by a person with a sleep disorder that people who get behind on sleep have a "sleep deficit" and eventually every single hours they missed that they had needed, has to be made up later.
Once you catch up, you will probably get back on schedule.
Don't drink! Some physical exercise might do it...
Ask for help---there must be someone who can stay with your child, or keep your child for a couple of days/nights so you can rest. It doesn't matter what time you sleep, you need to catch up on the hours you lost.
Keep in mind that driving when you are sleep deprived is dangerous!
Try a melitonin and a glass of wine.
Having one drink a day does not make someone an alcolholic.
good answers so far. Since I quit drinking on a regular basis and started exercising very regularly, i am sleeping like a champ - and I have definitely had my fair share of bouts of insomnia. If i feel a little wired before bedtime, i will take 1/2 of a 3mg dose of melatonin - works like a charm. I don't like to take melatonin every night though because i feel like my body does become accustomed to it. Good luck!
Are you still taking sleeping pills? How many do you take? How long have you taken them? These pieces of info are important. When my son started sleeping all night, I still couldn't. I started taking 1/2 of an Advil PM. After about a month or two I went to a whole one. 6 months later I would wake in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and not go back to sleep for an hour or two, right back where I started, then I was tired all day. I felt like the hormone that makes you feel drowsy just didn't exist in my body, but I had no energy. When I decided to stop taking them all together, it was very hard. The first night I probably got 2-3 hrs of sleep, then like 6 the next night. It got better but I was extremely lethargic all day, for about 4 days I thought something was wrong with me, like mono or something, I even called my doctor. Turns out, it was from coming off the pills, even though I didn't take a lot of them, I took them for a long time. Within about a week I got about 7-8 hrs of sleep, though tossed and turned. I started taking better care of myself and went to my Mom's for a weekend while my mother in-law watched my son. I needed a break. I read a lot on the internet about it. What I read seemed true. It took about a month for the pills to finally leave my system. It has been about 6 weeks now and when I go to sleep, I go into a deep sleep, like before I was pregnant. I mean all night! I just needed to relax a little and let the pills leave my system. Oh, and I completely agree about the yoga. Even 15 min a day can help. Hope this helps.
Prepare for bedtime. Once your 2 yr old is down, take an aromatherapy bath or shower to relax. When you get in bed, don't read, talk on the phone, watch TV...prepare to sleep. Lay on your back with your hands on your tummy. Try not to anticipate sleep. Deep breathe but expand your abdominal muscles instead of your chest cavity...repeatedly. Focus on expanding the muscles and the weight of your hand. I meditate on Psalm 23 while doing this relaxation technique; you can do what works for you or nothing at all. Do try the technique though. It was a wonder for me when my kids were 4 and 2; they're now 20 and 18. I still use this technique if I have trouble winding down at night. Sweet dreams.
Have you tried Melatonin? Sleeping pills also have no effect on me, but Melatonin has helped.
Insomnia can be a symptom of depression. Yes, you can be depressed and not realize that you are. Are you having trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or both?
