I Need a Good Nanny!

I am having the hardest time finding a full time, long term dependable nanny for my toddler son. I'm working with an agency who is really only finding people who walk in off the street as easily as I could find them on nanny websites. I've scoured the websites too and have interviewed alot. I've come close to hiring until the nanny flakes on me because a family is offering her a job paying her cash and I'll be deducting taxes. For a full time job, that's alot of cash! Our pay is comparable in the area and we have a consistent schedule - no nights, weekends, etc. My son takes long naps during the day which gives the nanny a nice break as needed. He's involved with alot of outside activities. We pay salary, paid vacations and most major holidays. What am I doing wrong??? Does anyone have advice for our area of where to look? I don't have family to help back us up.

What can I do next?

We had a great experience hiring our nanny through Park Cities Homestaffer and working with Adrienne, the owner. We gave her our very specific criteria, and she found nannies who fit the bill. We only interviewed two people before hiring our nanny, whom we have had for 1 1/2 years. She also does all the background and criminal checks. Adrienne has been doing this for over 15 years. She was also very helpful in advising us on how much we should pay and other things involved in employing a nanny because we had never hired one before. We are also paying taxes on our nanny through a payroll service that Adrienne recommended and did not have any trouble offering pay that way. The agency should be the one doing the primary vetting and narrowing the field for you. That's what you pay them all that money for. If you have to do all the work, there is no point in hiring the agency. Adrienne also had a philosophy of placing nannies only 4-6 weeks before they start a job because in her experience any further out than that, something may happen. Good luck!

I recommend Moms Best Friend Agency. They do on-going background checks with their nannies.

Hi J.,
If you are ok with russian speaking nanny, i can recommend you my mom. She has been working for russian and russian/english speaking families. All moms were very happy with her. Now she is home in Ukraine and will be back here in the end of September. E-mail me if you are interested and need more details.
