Timing just worked for me tomorrow. None of my daycare kids will be here and my 10 year old is out of town with a friend. I don't have a lot of money to spend, but I want to take my 3 year old to do something fun. I'm thinking under $20. Yesterday we went to the mall and rode the carousel and got ice cream. It's ove 100 degrees here, so I need indoor activities! Help?

A thought for a day when it's cooler: If you plan to go to the FW Zoo (which is AWESOME!!), there's a train ride located right before the zoo parking area.

It's $3 and lasts 45 minutes. I think it's called the Forest Park Train. You can find times by calling them. My 2 1/2 year old loves it and asks to go all the time.

is Southlake too far of a drive for you? If not, you should look into Safari Park. They have an indoor playground that my kids love. They have play areas like trains, kitchens, fire stations, etc. Then slide, ball pit, trampoline type thing. miniture golf. and a train ride and animal rides (mechanical) I think a play pass is $10. you can stay as long as you like. Or you could pick an indoor jump place. or, there's this place http://www.fbcgrapevine.com/groups/children/paradise-pond/
never been, but heard its fun. and its cheap!

Outdoor sprinklers, blow up pool you could both play in, make ice-cream, make cookies, read, snuggle, watch a movie, play a game, bubbles, sidewalk chalk??? Just cherish that time together....

Do you have a library? Ours has a playroom (with lots of fun, educational toys that probably no one has at their house), a puppet theatre, and of course, tons of fun books. Bonus, it's all free, so you could treat yourselves to a nice lunch after.

Could you try "toddler roller skating" as it in inside?
Arcade?
Go back to the mall and see if they have any other rides.
A kids movie even if he won't sit through the whole thing?
Sometimes I would take my child to a big store like, Target, so we could walk around, I could get my groceries and maybe buy him a toy.
Mini golf for a half session then end it w/the arcade and sno-cones?
Water park?
Go out to lunch
Enjoy honey! :)

DO you have a pool to go to? I think the pool is a great place to go when it is hot.

Go to the show! If you can handle it I think the Smurf movie is out. lol Not sure how it is in Texas, but if you go to the early show, it's usually cheaper.

Be lazy on purpose for half the day. Some of the MOST fun I've had with my son in our entire life has been in PJs with french toast or popcorn or brownies for breakfast. Tickle fights on the couch. Snuggles with a movie. Bouncing on the bed.

Ordinary things, that just turn extraordinary, because it's all about us instead of needs must. Whipping off my belt and using it as a tow rope in IKEA (him being toed about on his knees just laughing and laughing). Having a cold bubble bath in the middle of a hot afternoon. Twice. Riding a particularly long escalator up and down 40 or 50 times in a row. Painting with shaving cream on the bathroom mirror. Going somewhere with a piano. Buying feeder goldfish. A long drive in a hot car (we constantly have to find indoor activities, because it's COLD and wet here... in your case, an air conditioned car). A big chunk of it getting on and off the exit of the freeway (because the circle is fun). Reading books in Barnes & Nobel to find the "best" one for silly voices (that was our criteria for picture books, best 'voices' for mommy to make). Getting "coffee" at starbucks (he loves strawberries and cream frappucinos). Going for a ferry ride, just to feel the wind (aka go 'there' and back again, but never get off the boat. Dig out the halloween stuff and do face painting. Wear a halloween costume to the grocery store in summer. Never change out of a bathing suit that day. Blow bubbles. Go to a dress rehearsal of a play or opera. Bring our leftover breakfast brownies to the local fire department.

I spent all of my son's early years dead broke. Life can still be pretty fun and special spending nothing to $3 for "coffee".

run thru the sprinklers
read her book after book all by herself
let her help you make cookies
take her to a salon and have them wash, cut and dry her hair for fun
see if the library has a story time
paint her nails
take her to buy new big girl panties
sit on the floor and just play, no tv, no phone, nobody else.
