I put about 1/4 cup of bleach in bath (just enopugh to make it snell like Swiming pool.) He said that it take all the irritants off the skin. The bath has helped my son aa little. As far as the lotion we use eucern. He is also on presciption medications for it to. but We have to change his up about every 6 month because he buklt up and emunity to them.

I hate eczema as well :)

For my daughter, it seems that it is key for her to have a bath at least every two days and immediately after the bath I pat off the water and lube her up with aquaphor. I buy it by the tub because it is cheaper that way. I also bust out the aquaphor if she starts iching at all between baths. This time of the year is always tough. Good luck!

Hi A.. My name is A. and my 8 mo. old suffers from eczema and nothing seems to work all the time. It will go away and flare right back up. I hate it sooo much and feel so bad for him. Elidel does work the best but i have been told about it causing cancer so that scared me. But reading other responses i think im going to try this Arbonne stuff. Have you tried it yet?
I have also noticed if i give him a bath once a day in aveeno oatmeal bath helps and i also use the cetaphil wash. both of these bath products help the best for my son.

I've noticed with my 2 1/2 year old that when I cut back on wheat (bread, pasta, etc.), it has been the only thing to help. It works almost immediately with her - if I give her wheat, she will break out the next morning. I just tried cutting out different foods until I figured out what it was. She would get a rash on her wrists, bottom, and the bends of her legs and arms. It was really bad, and now it is almost completely gone. Hope this helps!

Hi A. - I have an 11 month old little boy who gets eczema also...and your right the season change has really made it flare up. I use Aquaphor cream; it really helps! Also, our Pediatrician said the baby soaps (i.e. Johnson & Johnson) can make the eczema worse so she said to avoid them. She suggested using Cetaphil for his bath; so i use the Cetaphil exculsively for his baths. It does really helps too. Good luck.

I have a friend who owns a bee farm in Texas. She makes a lot of great all natural products. My kid has eczema as well (she got it from her father!). It is the product of an over-active immune system and is more likely to have allergies. One thing you can try that my friend from Texas recommended is 1 tsp of locally made honey a day (has to be local, so it is made with local plants). It can help with allergies and eczema. I don't give it to my kid yet b/c she is only 2. But I do give it to my dog (i know, it sounds crazy) b/c he has a grass allergy. I was skeptical until I saw how quickly his bumps went away. As long as he gets his honey, he can go all spring and summer without a break out (I wish I would have known this 5 years ago!). My friend also makes this wonderful, all natural, honey moisture bar. I put in all over my kids body after her bath, and it has really helped in reducing her outbreaks. When she does have an occasional outbreak, I treat it with hydrocortison. If you would like her email address, send me a personal message and I can give it to you.

Hi A. - I was surprised no one else has mentioned Vaseline! My daughter has eczema too, and Vaseline works better than any of the over the counter or prescription medications we tried. All the doctors know it works, but are hesitant to recommend it because it feels greasy. But, it is the best I promise!

Hello A.,
One of my children had eczema when he was about your daughter's age. By observing him, we noticed that he would break out when he drank orange juice. So we started adding water and diluting his juices. We slowly added a lot of water with his food intake. That helped him! His skin cleared up. And that also helped our entire family....as we all drank lots of water with our meals so he didn't feel singled out at the time. The chidren are a lot older now....in their twenties, but still have an acquired taste for water. So watch your daughter, she might be allegic to something she is eating. Take care and hope you can pin point the problem that is causing her to break out.

My husband and 2 little girls have eczema. It gets worst during the cold season. Some products work great for some people and some doesn't. You should try each one until you find the right one taht works for your child.
We've tried all of the following (in the order of effectiveness for us)
1) Aquaphor
2) Eucerine lotion and cream
3) Aveeno bath
4) Aveeno lotion
5) Cetaphil wash
6) Cetaphil lotion
7) Cetaphil cream
8) Hydrocortisone
9) Water softening system for the house to get rid of the hard water that may cause irritations. This helps a lot for my husband.
10) Prescription - Elidel (this is most effective for our family but I only use it when really needed since it's prescription medication.

We avoid regular baby wash like Johnson and Johnson like the plague. We also avoid anything that has fragrance in it.

We found that Cetaphil products are the best for our family. I use prescription Elidel at the beginning with my older child but now I only use it when the eczema is very bad. Otherwise, bathing every other day during the winter with cetaphil body wash and use cetaphil lotion 2x/day seem to manage the eczema very well. It helps that we have the water softening system too.

It's very difficult to watch your child scratch herself into a secondary infection as this happened to my child. I hope you find some relief.

For my daughter we buy some cream from target. I don't remember the name of it but it is in a blue green tube. It is great. We only have to use it when we notice her legs are dry. Then we "greese" her up to prevent a flair up. When she does break out it helps clear it up in days. She does not have it as bad as your daughter, but we have found this to help when she does have a flair up. She get it on her chest and sides. in little spotches. Since we found the cream at target last spring it has kept her clear ever since. It say eczema on the lable. It has been a God send for her.

hey A.! if you are ready to try new things, you may want to check out chiropractic. here is some research with eczema:
http://www.icpa4kids.org/research/chiropractic/skin.htm

it could be that her little nervous system is a little hypersensitive...and that's just what chiropractors do...work with the nervous system!

good luck!

I am a black female that passed that trait on to even her Grandchildren. Try a health food store and see if they have any body butter. If they don't try bath and beyond or bath and bodyworks, just make sure they aren't scented. keeping the skin with a moisturizer helps a great deal. Then pray she grows out of it

I made sure to not use REALLY warm water in my son's baths and we gave up using dryer sheets. His doctor prescribed an ointment for his breakouts also. My son's gets so bad in the winter because its a lot dryer. Maybe if you try to use Aveeno sensitive skin to keep your daughter's skin moisturized...it says on the back of the bottle that it helps relieve eczema. It's definately worth a try.

My five year old has had it since he was 2 months old. If there is one thing I've learned from all this is that what works for one person may very well not work for another. To make a very long, hard, frusterating, (I could go on and on)story shorter we ultimately found out through allergy tests that he was allergic to Milk, Soy, Eggs, Peanut Butter, and cats. Avoiding these things has made things a bit easier, however, as he has gotten older he has less problem with eczema and has developed allergy induced asthma. We now carry albuterol syrup, benedryl, and his epi pen everywhere we go.

Since you don't know what is causing the Eczema I would suggest this; The common items children are allergic to are: Milk, Soy, Egg, Wheat, dogs, cats, peanut butter, shellfish. Try avoiding all these products for a week or two and then a week at a time add them back in one at a time. You may be able to find that she reacts to one of them. I have listed other helpful tips below. Be aware that most loations including Cetiphyl may burn her skin. During the week or two you should also include the following tips;

1. Give her two soaking oatmeal baths per day for 10 to 15 minutes (morning and night). (Aveno oatmeal bath)

2. As soon as possible after each bath apply any skin medications she has been prescribed to the problem areas. Then, coat body with Aquaphor.

3. As a bath wash or a loation, Cetiphil face wash(or the equate off brand) works wonders and it is so gentle you don't even have to wash it off, just pat dry.

4. Aveno products for eczema work great including the oatmeal bath.

5. Egg is offten used in immunizations like chicken pox.

6. Do not use dryer sheets.

7. Use Dreft laundry detergent on her clothes.

8. Don't let her get sweaty. This one is important for anybody with eczema.

9. Expect Eczema to put her in a foul mood to some degree.

10. A recient study found a higher rate of skin cancer in young chilren that were currently using Elidel. Our doctor discontinued our stript for this one.

11. Use prescription strength Hydrocortozone sparingly as it thins the skin and removes the pigment. My child has discolored splotches behind knees from before I was told of this fact.
