Hi Moms,

I am in the process of repairing my credit and I have a collection agency named Palisades on my report. I vaguely remember having a verizon wireless bill and it was for $44.00. Obviously I let that go into collections and when I saw it, I paid the bill because it was such a small amount. Well that was years ago and not only is that collection still reporting on my credit report but twice this year they have been reporting it as 120 days late. But it's already paid off and what I don't understand is how can a paid off debt continue to be late. At any rate, I would like to know what legal action I have against them because this seems illegal. I have sent a letter to the credit agency that is reporting it inaccurately but my preference is to have them removed altogether since they can't seem to report accurate information. I've googled them and have read all the other horror stories so I am not sure if direct contact with them will bring about any resolution. Any suggestions?

Hi D.:
Unfortunately, when creditors get antsy in waiting for their monies, they will sell your debt,to A collection company for a lesser amount, and give them the HONOR of hounding you till you either pay the collection agency, pull your hair out,or disconnect your phone.: ) Verizon neglected to tell the company they sold your debt to, that you paid the 44 dollars to THEM,therefore the collection company continues to harass and keeps your name on the list for T.R.W.Call the corporate office for Verizon, with the date you paid them and tell them to please contact whomever they sold the debt to and have them take it off,and show it as PAID IN FULL.Your credit is being jeopardized.Best of luck. Hello D., my name is H. and the story about being affected by this recession sounds so familiar. I am a stay at home mom of a 3 month old girl and a 8 year old girl! Not to long ago I wanted to find a way to spend more quality time with my family without pricy daycare costs! You may think the only way to make money is in the corporate world. NOT TRUE! You can stay home with your kids full time and still make the money you need. This is a great opportunity to live your dreams. There is no selling, no risks, and this is not MLM. Oh my! I just paid a debt of with this same company about a week ago. lol! I hope all goes well. I asked them to send a letter saying that they would accept the settlement that I offered them and then I want a letter saying that it was paid also. I keep after them to send out this letters so that they don't try to say it wasn't paid off later on.

Hope all goes well for you,
Kareemah

Usually stuff like that is still on your report because they were too lazy to take it off. Send a letter to all three credit reporting companies telling them that this "report" is incorrect and the information on when/how/etc you paid it. They will do the leg work and if they find you are correct they'll take it off. I've had to do it a few times. I hope that helps!

Good Luck!

Any time you pay off an old collection, the clock starts over. So if you have a debt that is 6 1/2 years old, that would fall off of the report in 6 months time, the clock restarts...and you have 7 more years until it comes off. Doesn't make paying old things off have a lot of incentive, does it?

There are only 2 ways to get something OFF your report; time or deletion.

If you have records showing that you paid it, you can send copies of them...and demand that "paid" gets added, but the 120 days late will stay.

In order to try and force a deletion, you either have to prove fraud (like someone stole your card/identity/checkbook) OR demand the documents that the collection agency is required to furnish (by law) upon your request. If they can't (they can have lousy filing, admin screwuos, etc. too), then you send a "letter of deletion". It's all very involved. If you don't want to hire an attorney, a mortgage lender is your best bet, because -unlike collection agencies, credit agencies, etc...they have a stake in your clean credit.

Good Luck...they system is fragged.
