L.,
do a google search for mommy groups in your area. That is what I did and found several through Meetup.com. I believe you and your great granddaughter would be welcomed into any group. You don't have to be mommy to join. They are groups to interact with others who are caring for children and for the children to play together in play dates. I am an older mom and feel comfortable with the younger moms.
Take care.

There are great play and learn groups available for you! Please contact Child Care Resources at ###-###-####.
You can also visit their website at http://www.childcare.org/ffn-care/play-and-learn.asp.

There are many classes, activities at the library, etc. that you can do to keep your granddaughter engaged and learning. She is lucky to have you and that you are so interested in keeping her active and learning.

Good luck!
C.

MOMS Club International is a good group to get involved with. You have weekly playgroups in your area, as well as other bigger activities every month and opportunities for you to socialize with other moms of kids her age. Don't feel like being grandma instead of mom makes any difference, because there are moms of all ages and you will fit in just fine.

L., you are amazing to raise your great-grandaughter and to realize that she needs other children and group situations to thrive.

In addition to seeking out play groups, you may also want to start looking for a part time pre-school that she can start at 2 1/2 years old. You might be able to find an inexpensive co-op for 2 or 3 days a week for 3-4 hours at a time through a church or other neighborhood option. This is great for socialization and learning structure and play with others. The bonus would be meeting other parents to set up play dates, etc.

Good luck!

Isn't is beautiful to watch these little miracles??? -- I'm a grandma helping raise a 4 and a 10 year old ( they llived with me until they were 2 and a half and 8) ---. MY computer doesn't tell me where you live- in Lake City area of Seattle is a pre-school called Lily Pad that has a drop-in ( free) play group on Thursdays - from 10--noon. That would be a good one--- and I think the Seattle Gymnastics Academy in Lake City has some drop in programs that are free-- check out their web-site--

Also-many libraries have free story reading hours -- check out the ones closest to you---.

Many many blessings- and take your vitamins

O would join a local MOPS group. They are very supportive. Yes, it is based out of church but trust me if you are not religious you will not feel pressured to be.

I would imagine there are play groups where you would have lots of fun. You might search for something at www.meetup.com I did a quick search and found this one: http://gparenting.meetup.com/28/

Also, a great program that I participated with my 2 yr old was the Bellevue Community College 2 year old coop preschool which meets 1 day a week for 2 hours. The one we did had a couple grandparents attend with the child. I would bet there are still lots of openings in the various locations of the program. The program is very inexpensive and a wonderful experience for you and the child. (although the first month or so ws a little painful bc its all so new and you don't know anyone yet) you can check it out at: http://bellevuecollege.edu/parented/default.asp

I would check your local county parks and recreation, if available. The parks and rec. in Vancouver WA is great and always has a lot of different options for children of all ages.

I would join a chapter of your local MOM's club. It's a great organization of women in the community that get together and plan lots of activities for the kids and themselves too...like infant toddler play groups, meeting in the park, pancake breakfasts, camping together, yesterday my MOM's club was just in a parade that was fun for my 3 year old to sit on the float. They plan lots of different activities that you can pick and choose from and you can be as involved as you want to be. It is a really great way to get for your daugther to get to know other little kids her age and it would be nice for you to socialize with other mom's (because you are a mom again) who are going through the toddler years as well. I admire that you are taking on raising your 2 year old as a g-gram-mom. http://www.momsclub.org/

Thank you for helping out this precious baby! I work full time but I see alot of mothers at the mall playing. Where are you located? I also think a MOPS or a daycare may be a good place. Maybe you could find a daycare that would let you bring your great grandbaby in exchange for you helping out with the other kids while you are there....Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

I am not sure exactly what area you live in, but I have a free playgroup at the Estacada library every Thursday morning 10:30. I started it simply by asking if I could use the community room and then putting out flyers in the area and on the library bulletin board. Most of the kids we have are between 18m and 3yrs old so it works out really well. It's only a 20 min drive from Clackamas area or Oregon City.
