Thank you for all of your responses. I have done a lot of research on the preschools in Dearborn and the surrounding area and I am going to observe some of the class rooms over the next couple of weeks. I really like the Montessori Educational Philosophy however it is very expensive. But I am still looking for something academic based.I will keep you updated. If you need any info on the schools in the area I have a excel spreadsheet that I have kept track if all the info I have received I can send to you. Here are some web-sites I found helpful

Hi J.,

I have been to so many preschools in Dearborn!!!
It all depends on what you are looking for and how much you want to spend.
I live in West Dearborn and looked at DuVall preschool, the ratio is great - only 14 kids with 2 teachers. Not one teacher and an aid, two actual teachers. So the ratio is 7-1.

I love the Montessori method and had looked into the Dearborn Heights one. It is very expensive and children have to attend for 5 days. There is a Montessori pre-school on Pelham in a church just into Taylor. They are very flexible, and priced well.

Dearborn Early learning center on Monroe is a favorite among many of my friends. They will let you and your child sit in on a class to check it out. Very impressive, many kids learn to read in the program because they use phonics soup and it is heavily academic. Not the right fit for us. I have sons and he needed more "play" time.

The Cherry Hill Co-op is nice but it wasn't a fit for us because I have a younger son at home and would have had to found a sitter during the day so I could volunteer at the school. Not that this was impossible it just gave me more to think about and there was mandatory fundraising which I also wasn't interested in, but they have been around for years and years and they do some great field trips.

I have friends who have their kids in the new preschool at Sacred Heart and they are very happy to have a Catholic option because they plan to send their kids to Catholic school for grade school. The program just started this year.

Emmanuel Lutheran has an establish preschool program and I sent my son there last year and pulled him out this year. He didn't get a warm fuzzy from the teacher and either did I but I know many families that are happy there.

I wish I had listened to my gut and enrolled my son at DuVall but at the time I didn't know what I wanted him to get out of pre-school and now I know after much trial and error. My husband and I also didn't know where we wanted to send the boys for grade school and now we know. So had I known all of those things it would have been a much easier choice for me!

I wonder sometimes if I am the only Mom to stress out over education options! LOL

My 3 year old will be at DuVall for preschool as well as my kindergartner! Kindergarten. Good Luck!

J.,

If you live on the West side, there's a Developmental Preschool program that's run out of HFCC, but, the class is actually at a couple of the Elementary schools. They have AM or PM preschool on Tue. and Thurs. (3 y.o.) for 2 hours (I think). My oldest daughter is attending the 4 year program (M,W,F) at Howard. She's there for 2 hours in the morning (again, your choice of AM or PM) and I'm extremely happy with the program and her progress. The teachers are wonderful, and as my daughter calls them, silly. She's actually at Howard Elementary (York and Hollander). If you're interested in the program at that school, the # is ###-###-####. Let me know if you need any other info. Good Luck!

I'm a grandmother but had my children in Chapel Day Preschool at the Episcopal Church at Cherry Hill and Military in Dearborn. It was great and gave me a couple hours morning or afternoon to give some attention to the younger child. The preschools at the Presbyterian Church at Telegraph and Cherry Hill and the one on Brady are very good also. I have had friends whose children went to those. I'm certain they would welcome a visit so you could check them out.
Good luck. Marily W.

My daughter is in the 3-year old pre-school at Emmanuel Lutheran. She seems to like it. It wasn't my first choice, but my daycare was willing to take her there and pick her up.

St. Sebastian's Church in Dearborh Heights (Merrick and Dartmouth) also has pre-school for 3 and 4 year olds. They also have some special reading program that they teach there and I believe that they even introduce the reading program to the preschoolers. St. Sebastians, like many school, offer script where you can earn money towards your tuition by purchase gift certificates to stores and resturants that most people would frequent, like Kroger, CVS, etc.
