After 2 long years I was finally diagnosed w/ stage 4 endometriosis and I will probably need a total hysterectomy. I feel good about the treatment needed but I think my husband is a little concerned about the hormone therapy that I will need and any changes that will bring about. Also wondering how your recovery went. If anyone would share there stories (good and bad) I would appreciate it. Thanks

What can I do next?

Treating endo with a hysterectomy does not always take it away. Have you looked into excision surgery? Find a specialist that deals with endo. I was able to get this surgery & I have been endo "free" since May 2005.

There are support groups online to read more stories from others. Research other options.

Both my mother in law and mother had these operations. My mums ovaries packed up early and she had to go on hormone replacement. (She was 37). My mother in law was older and wanted to go on something natural and went on estrovent I think it is called. She says it worked for her. Dont push your self after surgery. My mum had a friend who just wouldn't rest and had several relapses and had to go for surgery. Make sure you have enough help for however long the doctors says and don't do stuff your not supposed to even if you feel good! Good luck!

Hi A.!
Only two years of endometriosis? Before my total hysterectomy, it was twenty years..when I was 44, my female OB/GYN told me she would not do the surgery, eventhough I was bleeding to death!
Finally, I saw a male OB/GYN, and had the surgery done about six weeks later.....I have never, for one minute regreted thisdecision.
I do n ot take hormone therapy against my doctors advice, but I feel no ill effects from it, actually I am far more healthier than I ever was...no more PMS...no more bleeding to death every three weeks....my mood is constant and happy. My hair and nails have improved so much, my skin has not broken out, and I had acne pretty often.
My recovery was short (three weeks), and I had my bladder "lifted" at the same time, and I save tons of money by not having to buy feminine products every month, and new sheets and underwear, etc, etc.
You will be amazed at how much better you feel, and how much easier life is without the damaged "parts".
I said my thank you's and goodbuy's, blessed and then let it go.
The doctor who performed my surgery was Dr. Atkins, at Chester County OB/GYN it.
Good Luck with everything!

My mom has this done. They kept one of the ovires in. So that it was to cut down of the homrmone change. I don't think that she is on any hormone treatment. If your husband is that concerned then have him sit and talk to the doctor.
