Hurricane Lane

This is for everyone stuck in the hurricane belt this weekend. In terms of probably being homebound, I'm looking for ideas on how to entertain a 17-month-old active little girl.

Usually we head out in the morning until naptime (1 p.m.) but the prognosis for leaving the house, given Irene, is looking pretty grim.

Daddy and I will probably take turns reading and coloring with her or setting up a tent indoors for fun.

Any other ideas?

What can I do next?

Just play toys with her. Hopefully it will be weakened by the time it gets to you guys. We are in MD and it's supposed to be a Cat 2 when it gets here tomorrow - my kids are 4, 6, and 8....so they can play games on their own and they love to sleep! YAY! But I would just say to read, color, play, etc...do whatever you would normally do minus leave the house :).

I would go outside until it starts pouring or lightning and thundering - I love to play in the rain!!! My mom splashed with me in the puddles in Hawaii and I have GREAT memories of that...

If you have a portable DVD player - make sure it's charged up and keep a couple of her favorite DVDs - cartoons, etc. on hand...

Best thing to do is NOT panic...be prepared...

What do you normally do on rainy days? Do that! Watch TV until the power goes out. When the power goes out (and the storm has passed) go somewhere with power, like the mall. Or go to a friends house with a kid and play. Most kids toys are battery operated. Play with toys...
You northerners trip me out with this hurricane stuff. :)

Bake a cake before you lose power so when you get really bored you can decorate it with frosting, sprinkles, then eat it!

I like the cake idea but maybe cookies would be easier for a 17 month old. Get some balls - you can play roll them back and forth. London Bridge is a good game, Farmer in the Dell, Duck, Duck Goose, play "band" with your pots and pans.

We are planning a 'dance party' with our 11 month old and 4 year old. Turn up the music and dance away! :-)
