We recently moved here from South Carolina and are now living in a corporate apartment. I have been house hunting like crazy, and we feel like we have finally found the right house for us. The house is in the neighborhood Huntington Place (in Northport), and though I like what I see so far, I was just curious if anyone who lives there or has lived there has any comments good or bad. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I used to live in Tuscaloosa and know all the neighborhoods are pretty good. Northport is a great place and I think I know where Huntington place is and it is a great neighborhood, Is it down 69 or 43? Anyway, we lived in the Carriage Heights subdivision right behind Super Target, it was a little hidden subdivision of only one street and it was a nice quiet neighborhood. Good luck with Alabama, we lived in T town for three years and we moved from Texas. Now we are down here in little ol' demopolis and still come up at least once a month.

Have ya'll considered building? There is a great builder here in town who has about 13 neighborhoods outside the city limits in good school districts. They are "Hunter Homes" and if you have decent credit you can build a new probably up to 2000 sq ft home for about $800 a month with 100% financing.
I work for the onsite Lender and my sister is now a first time (by herself)home owner at 44 after going thru us!
She has a 1927 sq ft home, brand new, 3 bedroon, 2 bath and pays about $800 per month mortgage.

I live in Alabama also and it sounds like you are talking about a neighborhood in Birmingham area. I live in Pinson which is on the outskirts of Bham but also in Jefferson County. I have heard positive comments about a Huntington Place but not sure if it is the same one you are looking at. I am a grandmother of a 3 and 1 year old and love Mamasource. Contact me if I can help you in anyway. ____@____.com

I suggest that you contact the neighbors on both sides and speak to them. This will give you a chance to see what you are moving into. Also suggest you find out about your church, visit the pastor/minister etc and ask questions.
One question is would they move into the neighborhood with the present conditions?

I live in St. Gabriel which is in the S W tip of EBRouge parish. If you like a quiet place there are homes on two and three acre lots. Very good for children and horses, pets.

Good Luck God Bless

Never heard of it, but, the first questions id ask is about power/water/garbage/sewer. If its a co op, Id walk away. They say they are better then corporate types, but let me tell you what they dont tell you, When theres a problem and it needs to be fixed, everyone pays. My typical bill for electric only, is around 100 a month. When we had no power for ten days from an ice storm, you would think it would be less, and if it was a corporate it would of been, however since its a co op, I had to pay based on reg bill, my own part of repairs, my bill was 999.00. In co op also, none of your bills are combined. My waters seperate, its 40+ a month and garbage is only 15 a month. My heat is propane, and its pay in advance in full. So that is the first thing i would ask. What company is the power from. If its a co op, id never move to a co op area again. Just my personal opinion, but if you ask a realtor, they have to show you regular bills. Id look into the taxes as well.

Huntington is a nice neighborhood. I have a few friends that live there and like it very much. I have many friends that have children in Huntington Elementary and have great things to say about it. I would also suggest the neighborhoods in the Rock Quary School district. It is a great elementary school. I live in Greystone subdivision and it is a wonderful neighborhood, especially for kids. There are several homes on the market if you are interested in checking out this awesome neighborhood.

if you are thinking of buying this house, please do have it inspected first. make sure it is a full not partial inspection. this way, if things need to be fixed the seller has to get them fixed not the buyer unless the buyer chooses to fix it them selves. make a list of everything. go on line and compare with other houses and find out everything you can about this home. also please do be careful whom you choose as a lender and what morgage company you go through. been there and done that in idaho and got messed up badly with washingon mutural. we live in okla. and are going through a great morgage company and we are very pleased with them. the best of luck to you and family, C.

Mokika,

The best advice I ever received from a friend was to park in the neighborhood several different times of the day and evening during the week and then on both Saturday and Sunday. We checked out a neighborhood and was ready to make an offer when we got this advice and boy was I glad that I did what was suggested. The neighbor next door belonged to a motorcycle club that meet at his house on Friday nights and the guy down the street drove a semi which he parked at home three nights a week and left at 5:30 a.m. in the mornings. The homeowner and neighbors that we talked to failed to mention these small details.
