Hi. I was diagnosed with this a few years ago. It apparently is very common and a high percentage of women have it! It comes in different levels/stages. One Dr told me that I needed to have the same thing, either freeze them or do a loop procedure. I got a 2nd opinion and the dr told me more or less it could be treated more conservatively.
Up until recently, I was going for re-paps every 3 months to keep an eye on it becuase if left untreated (for years), it can turn into cervical cancer. The dr explained to me that as long as you keep a handle on it and monitor it, things should be fine. It's women who never go to the OBGYN and have HPV and don't get it checked and then it turns into cervical cancer. This is why it is so important to always go for your annual exam. So every three months I was going and I would have irregular paps, once in a while a normal one then go back to irregular. This took place for about 3 years. In 2005/2006 I had 2 or 3 negative paps and am now back onto annual visits to the OBGYN.
I had my first baby last August. My dr who told me I needed to have the prodcedure done told me that if I was going to have the procedure that I should have that first before becoming pregnant. If you havent had a second opinion, it is my suggestion you do so. Like I said, this is a very common virus and many women have it. It was just on Oprah a few days ago and I forget the % of women who have it but I BELEIVE it to be well over 50%. Im thinking 70% for some reason but I could be wrong. I know it was a high percentage.
When I first was told I had it I was VERY upset by it but as I learned more about it and learned how common it is, it calmed me some. You may have a hgiher level of the virus than I did but I would get a second opinion if I were you. It can never hurt! Good luck!
K.
