Ok, my husband and I have a two year old daughter who still sleeps in our room in a separate bed. His sister is also staying with us. We only have a two bedroom apt. The thing is, we are pretty organized except that now its getting Spring and I am rady to clear out our winter coats and blankets. Our closets are already jam packed, and we have no under the bed storgae. I do however have a vacuum with a hose, and remember seeing the space saver bags on tv. Has anyone used them? What is the best price? Do they actually work? Thank you so much for any inout!

Space Saver bags are awesome. I put my yarn in them (I have a bit of a yarn problem :) ) Spend the money on the brand though. I found that the cheaper ones have a tendency to leak. They really do help a lot.

Dear L.:

They do work! As a professional organizer I do recommend them from time to time depending on client needs. Don't forget to clean the items before storing, you don't want stains to sink in! Also, with your limited storage, be sure to use other hidden storage areas such as back of doors. There are all sorts of organizers that are made for that space now a days... or you can simply get an over the door shoe storage bag. Using this space is very inexpensive but very efficient. Good luck!

I tried those bags & HATED them! I wanted to use them them a few years ago to save space on a cross-country move from Tucson to Boston & they are complete garbage! They rip and split super easy. They were just awful. You could barely put anything in them without them completely falling apart. Very flimsy & useless. I actually found out that regular old hefty bags work just as well, if not better. Save your money and the aggravation. Load up your clothes in a regular garbage bag, put the vacuum hose in the bag, suck out the air & then tie it off really quickly & very tightly. I don't know how it would work for the long term, but it got me through about a week of travels with a jam-packed little car full of everything I owned!

Hi L.,
We have used the bags. They come in all sizes. Just don't over fill them and they work very well. I got mine at WalMart in a set. You can check on the web on one of the sites that does price comparisons and see if you can get some prices to compare too. They are well worth the time and energy. YOu can also donate any of the clothes that you are tired of or your daughter has outgrown to the local shelter and Goodwill...
Take care

I have used them... they dont always get as small as you see on tv, depends what and how much you put in the bag. But I used them for "pre-pregnancy" clothes for a while and now I use them for both pre-pregnancy and maternity clothes.... ha ha. They arent very expensive... I bought mine at Linens N Things but I think you can get them at Sears, KMart, etc.

I use the Space Saver bags and think they are fantastic! Over winter I put all of our beach towels and summer clothes into them, and in summer I put away all the heavy blankets and winter coats. It really does save a lot of space!!

I found some at the Christmas Tree Shops - not the Space Saver brand, but the same basic idea - at a FRACTION of the cost of the original Space Savers ... I think a packet of 2 large and 1 extra large bag at the Christmas Tree Shops cost me $7, in comparison to about $20 for the Space Savers at Target.

Good luck!!

provided you buy the good ones that are advertised and not any cheap knock offs, you should be ok. I tried cheap ones and had to return them. The seams leaked. I have a few of the good ones and used them for afgans and duvets. They work pretty good. They are a bit lumpy but definitely worth it and saves a lot of space.

I got a variety pack at Bed Bath and Beyond. Like them. They do get pretty small- just don't over stuff. I can't remember how much they were- but I think they're worth it.

I have seen them both at Walmart and Target and keep an eye out of they are on sale. We have a smaller home as well and I have really loved the space that we have saved with them.

As for what to do from home...Currently I am on my second year off from teaching kindergarten. While I have been home, I became a Creative Memories consultant. It has been so helpful for my family to earn extra money, have some nights out for myself, and my sales allow me to get my own album making suplies for FREE which is a great bonus for me since I love to take pictures of my two kids. I have had some other friends sign on under me or sign under other direct sales companies. They have loved the freedom to work from home and make their own hours. If Creative Memories is something you think you might be interested in learning more about, feel free to contact me. It has been one of the best things that I have done.

We bought the ones at Target and had mixed results. We bought a few boxes of the Large size (I think it was like $7 for a box of two) and one from each box worked great, and the other one released the vacuum before we even had a chance to put them in storage (a matter of hours). We followed the directions to the T -- double-checked the directions and started again after the vacuum released, and the same thing happened. I'm guessing defective bags, but was annoyed as they weren't cheap. If you do get them, my suggestion would be to use them, then leave them out for a few hours before you stow them so you can be sure the vacuum seal is working.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!!! I got them last year for the winter/spring exchange. I use them for our bedding and for our clothes. I got them online since I seemed to get better deals there. Also, I got the ones that were in totes (kind of looked like soft boxes with the bags in them. They were well worth the investment, saves me time and energy and space. I'm using them right now to return the winter bedding and bring out the spring. The only thing I'd add is if you decide to get them when you use them, get a bounce sheet to put into the bags because otherwise it leaves a 'plasticy' smell.

I've used them and as long as you don't move with them you should be fine. DH poked a tiny hole in one and it was ruined...useless. But other than that they have worked great. Just be careful with them so you don't snag an anything and poke a hole.

We've used them for many things. We buy them at Walmart. There are some brands that aren't as durable as others. I'm not sure if it was Space Bag brand that was the best or American Tourister. Be careful of buckles and zippers because they can poke holes in the bags. The great thing about buying them at Walmart is that you can return them if they don't hold up!

I use the ones without the vacuum. SpaceSavers I bought from QVC .. fill them up,seal like a zip-lock bag, then roll or press and there one-way valves on the other end where the air escapes. I have quilts, pillows, extra blankets stored this way. I don't want to hassle with the vacuum. I use the small ones when traveling and of course wouldn't have a vacuum with me.

In my experience they DO work very well -- and while they may occasionally begin to take on air, all you do is put your vacuum to them again (without removing anything), tighten the cap and put them back where you stored them.

You don't need to get them from TV, however. They are available right at Walmart (and cost less), and if my memory is correct, also at Costco. (Don't recall them being any less expensive there.)

The extra-large size holds at least 3 LARGE and PUFFY comforters/bedspreads (if not more). You won't believe how much you can put in there! Be sure to fold things instead of jamming them in and they will compress much better and the bag will hold more. Anything you might use occasionally should go on top -- the bags are large ziplocks and you can just unzip and take something out, rezip, vacuum, and put it back in storage.

The only caution is to NOT overfill them. There usually is a fill like marked, and you shouldn't exceed it or the bag may fail (ziplock will break and won't hold seal). These bags keep out moisture, dust, mold, little crawly things and more!

Hope this was helpful. :)

We had a similar issue when we lived in our apartment. The space saver bags help and we used the large ones we found at Target. The small ones are good for traveling.

Another idea is to actually raise the beds! Bed Bath and Beyond and Linens N Things have bed lifters - a set of four blocks that go under the four corners of your bed (not sure if they have sets for king sized beds) and lift them about three to four inches. It's not a lot but will give you a ton of additional storage space.

You could also consider the hard plastic bins that slide under the bed (got mine at Target). Those bins are awesome because they slide in and out easily and keep things much neater. You could easily use both the bags and bins and load a lot of extra stuff under those beds!

If you don't like the look of the raised bed - you could even try a longer bed skirt (we used an old king sized one on our queen so that it would hang longer - worked great!).

Happy Spring sprucing!

Ok, this is so funny that you are asking about these. I really went out yesterday and bought the "cube" because I saw it on tv and wanted to trim down some of the bulk from our comforters. I really put 3 of them into the extra large cube bag and it now looks like 1 twin comforter is inside the bag...thats how small it went!!! I believe I paid $8.96 at Walmart(my home away from home)and I got 1 extra large and 1 large...The large says it holds 10-12 sweaters so I can't wait to use that one.

Hope this helps.
