How to Work Part Time with Kids

I am thinking of going back to work in a few months, about two days a week. My SIL is willing to watch my baby as long as it is during "school hours". I have a degree in nursing, but do not want to return to floor nursing since that would not fit my SIL schedule. I don't have to return to the medical field, I'm quite open to other opportunities. My SIL is willing to watch my baby from 9-3, but nothing beyond that. Any ideas?

thanks,

L.

how bout a nurse at a school... or a substitute nurse at a school. my friend is a sub nurse at a school... and it works out great.. she applied and they call her as needed... maybe once a week... until something permanent comes up. the hours 8:30 - 2:30 great..
or a fill in at a veterans hospital. also a nurse for summer camps.. this way you can send out resumes now... and be hired for the summer.

Hi L.---You could also work at home with your own home-based business revolving around health and wellness education. I am hiring! You set your own hours, work as little or as much as you'd like. The opportunities and options are endless...and we get to help people become healthier at the same time.

The health and wellness industry is the fastest growing segment of the economy. People realize that the current medical system is NOT working...particularly with disease prevention.

If you would like to know more about this option, I would love to share with you what it is that I do. Sounds like you'd be perfect with a background in nursing. Take care and good luck with your search. In health, D.

What about contacting private doctor's offices to do phone triage.

I now see I am repeating but school nurse.

They need substitutes and some schools have part time or job share nurses.

Good luck

You may be able to sign on w/ nursing agencies and sign on to just work during the available times.

You could also maybe work outside your field or from home.

could you be a school nurse? With budget cutbacks there may be some use for part time. Cyber schools also employ nurses. Or how about a doctors office? You are lucky-lots of opportunities in your field that work well with motherhood.

Check into school nursing positions in your area, they are hard to come by, but well worth it.

Also, check with local agencies, they have home health nursing assignments. You could schedule your home visits in between the hours you need!

Have you thought about being a substitute nurse for your school district? Not sure if it would get you as many hours as you'd like, but it would fit the school schedule!

Instead of just exploring jobs as a school nurse, check out the local colleges too. They sometimes have a nurse for dorms or campus. Also, talk to some local doctor offices. Sometimes they have a nurse who wants a day off and needs someone to fill in, maybe even on a regular schedule.

I specialize in work at home jobs. I know of a company that hires nurses to work from home answering calls. http://fonemed.com/employment

Not sure what licensure level you are but if you are at least an RN, you might think about doing utilization review for a health insurance company i.e. Aetna, United etc as most are work from home jobs.

maybe a part time receptionist or nursing job at an after hours clinic? i work at a clinic that's open 8-8 but there is a shift change during lunch. so if you could find something similar that's open late, maybe you could work the morning shift a couple days a week!

good luck!!

What about a school recess aide? You only go in from 10:30-1 and keep an eye on the kids during lunch and recess. Fits really well into your babysitting, kids lives, summers off, and no work to bring home. Good luck!

How about part time nursing at a doctor's office? Getting out of your field is not the best idea, in my opinion. How about working for a home health group? I would think you could set hours with them in that time range.
