How to Tie down Bumper Pad in 4 in 1 Crib with Solid Back???

Hi ladies! I have a 4 in 1 crib that I love. It has been great. It has a solid back (that will one day be the headboard). I have the bumper pad in his crib, but I can't tie down the back part of it because there are no slots to tie it down. It hasn't been a problem until recently. I went to check on him last night and he pulled one of the strings so the pad was in the middle of the bed. I keep the strings tucked under the mattress. I guess it doesn't work any longer. Does anyone know how I can tie it down so it is safe for him?

Thanks!
S.

Hi S. I had the same problem. Our pedi. told us to take the bumper out & not use it at all, but then a few times her arms & legs would go through the slats. So I got a mesh "breathable bumper" & it has enough slack where you can run it around the back side. It's not as pretty as a bumper but it's so much safer. Once he starts moving around that bumper won't have a chance anyway. You can get the mesh one at Babies R' Us. in diffrent colors. Good Luck.

Extend teh strings so they can reach to a spot where you can tie
also you coudl make each side the velcro match and it could velcro around the back

I don't know how old your son is but I have the same kind of bed and I used industrial velcro. It worked for a while until my kids became strong enough to pull it off.

I would take the bumper out. That seems like there would be a wide, looping gap where the baby could get tangled up in the bumper. If he's found the strings and pulled them out, he's already figured out that there is something to play with in his bed. You don't want him to get a limb or his little head stuck.

I took the bumper pad out almost immediately after my daughter started sleeping in her crib, because she liked to pull on it and untie the ties, etc. It just scared me to think of a noose-like thing in her bed. The CDC actually recommends parents to NEVER use bumper pads. Check www.cdc.gov and search for bumper pads and cribs or something like that.

Hope this doesn't scare you too much (but maybe just the right amount). We just want the little guy to be safe!

If your son can pull it down I would take it out of the crib. I really think the bumper pad is more of a decoration.

I have the same thing. I went out and made a point to get a 4 in 1 that had a solid back so it wont look like a conversion later but didnt think about the bumper thing. I ended up just trying them into bows and sticking a little stick though them and never had any problems. She is now 15 months and has pulled the stickes out and just plays wiht them but I think it is fine.
If you are worried about it and want to use the bumper maybe you could just cut them off though.
Good luck
