I'm planning a baby shower (which I've never done before!) for this summer, and I know the mother would love a Dr. Seuss themed shower, since that's how she's decorating her nursery...any ideas for decorations or games--anything at all would be helpful!
Thanks, in advance, Mamas!

What can I do next?

What a cute idea! You could serve deviled eggs and ham. Serve alphabet shaped sugar cookies. And make crazy, colorful hats as favors. (more ideas heres)

You could print large pics of Dr. Suess characters at Kinkos and use them on walls and such. Or laminate small pics and use them on the cake for decoration.

My sister makes really cute diaper cakes, that people use for center pieces and games too. She could make you a really great Dr. Suess themed one.

Or you can wear a cute Dr. Suess shirt, and get the baby a little gift set here:

And here's a downloadable Dr. Suess Baby Shower game (or make your own):

How fun is this? Here are some ideas I found or made up. Have fun! By the way, I make Diaper Wreaths, and I'd LOVE to make a Dr. Seuss one for you, if you're still looking for a great gift. The Moms I've made them for hang them in their hospital room, on the nursery door, and in the nursery. I would love to create one for your friend. (You can check out some samples on my site: www.favoroo.com.)

Here are the ideas: :)

Games:
- Have the guests name as many Dr. Seuss books as they can.
- Guests write a short Seuss-rhyme about the Mom or Baby. The Mom-to-be could choose the one she likes best, or just save them to use in her scrapbook.
- Play BINGO with Dr. Seuss book clip art that you can find online.

Decorations:
- Use bright colors (blue, red, green, etc.) Decorate using the hat shape or other characters from the books that you can print off online. (Here is a link to the hat shape- http://www.atozteacherstuff.com/pages/4051.shtml.)
- Make a "hat" cake using a larger round cake pan for the bottom (in white) and then smaller cakes, stacked, in alternating white and red "stripes". You could place a cute rattle on the top to make it more "baby"-ish, or just leave it as the hat. :)
- Decorate your table with foods that are mentioned in the books...or at least, LOOK like them. (I don't think anyone REALLY wants to eat "green eggs and ham" at the shower; although, maybe they will. lol)
- Place red (Swedish fish) on or in a food item (from "One Fish Two Fish".)
- Have your family help you make "feet" (from "The Foot Book") and tape them around the walls at the shower. (http://ilovangels.angelcities.com/DrSeuss.html)

Oh, I make diaper cakes, and I think I could have a TON of fun making it look like the Cat in the Hat hat. If you're interested in that, give me a call or email me ###-###-#### or ____@____.com Those always make great centerpieces, and everything on it is usable (diapers, blankets, washcloths, etc)

Do a cute Dr. Seuss story about the mom/baby and repeat one word throughout and have the guests pass the game prize around (hot potato) to the next person everytime the 'word' is repeated and whoever is holding the game prize when the last repeated word is said, gets to keep it!

Hope that wasn't too confusing! Good luck, everything sounds adorable!!

A friend threw me a "book shower" for me because she knew I loved to read and I was hoping to pass that along to my soon to be first born. Each guest at the shower was given a fairy tale name. You could give each guest a character name from a different book and give them a nametag when they arrive (with that character name). I would use the actual Seuss books to decorate. You can probably get them from the library if you don't have a child with a collection. Take down the books and see how many titles each guest can recollect and write them down - the one with the most wins! You can also do a rhyming game like "There's a Wocket in my Pocket," but with baby items - there's a cottle in my bottle, a skriper in my diaper. It doesn't have to make any sense and sounds like fun to me! Hope you get some great ideas.
You might try to make green eggs and ham, but I have no idea how to do that!!

You could use the invitations and also give her the thank you cards as part of your gift.

Just a thought to get you started!

I am not sure about actual decorations but I have a company called Nana Puddin's Boutique and we do customized Burp Cloths, Bibs and much more. We could do some customized items with Dr. Suess and the baby's name if you would like. If you have a moment, go check out our page on myspace: nanapuddinsboutique. Thanks!!!

A friend of mine had one about three years ago and her sisters went all out. they made food/decorations to match all or many of the books, we had to guess from the 'art' which book it went to and we didn't have a list to pick from. it was hard but so interactive. We also did a couple other games already mentioned by previous posts. As for the cake just find someone who is artsy and pick something simple really, they made something for my friend that looked like the seuss hat, seemed difficult to me. And the punch was cool! They put gummy fish in a blue colored punch. Just added to the bright colors someone else suggested. Just take it easy and don't over plan, most the time with showers every one wants to catch up with the mom or old friends/family. Oh the last thing I can thing of is when having everyone sign in, have them fill out their address on the envelopes that the mommy will use for thank you cards, I appreciated this gesture at my shower, it was just nice to have it already done. Good luck and God bless, you are a great friend.
