Hello mamas,
I need your help on how to make "flat" cookies. I've tried several different cookie recipies and my cookies always look like mushrooms/buttons. They can never be flat like "normal" cookies. Please help! Thanks

Hi T.. I love baking! I recommend using half shortning/half margarine whenever the recipe calls for butter or margarine. It works beautifully. And I also always use extra flour...like an extra quarter cup or so. It makes your cookies "look" really good, besides tasting really yummy!

T.,
Try using a little lass baking soda and use real butter instead of margarine.
For cookies like molasses I kind of drop the cookie sheet on the counter when I take them out of the oven, it makes them "de-poof" and spread a little.
Have fun!

Ha! I thought I was the only one who was cookie illiterate. Half the time mine used to not have bottoms (literally, a cookie top -- like a shell). We still don't know why this happened. My husband is an avid cookie-baker, and I have had some more practice now. I feel like I can at least have a good time making a mess with my kids. That's all that matters, right?
Anyway, are you using self-rising flour instead of regular flour?
