Hi

I am looking for option to keep my carpet soft for baby to crawl. I have managed to keep the carpet clean while vaccumming twice a week. After my daughter started crawling sometime ago. The regular vaccumming is making the carpet stiff. And her knees and hands are on rough surface.

Please suggest alternative, i dont want her to be not liking to crawl because of carpet.

What can I do next?

I bought wrist bands at the sports store and put those on my childrens knees when they didn't have pants on.

I just put down a fleece blanket on top of my carpet in the areas she would be in. I always had sweat pants on my kids so knees didn't get rug burns on them. Even the softest carpet gives rug burns. Think about the fleece.

I would buy some baby kneepads. These are widely available.

I agree with the others - don't make it too pleasant or she wont want to walk. Like the others my daughter crawled easily over hardwood floors, our berber carpet, up stairs, etc. She has a little roughness on her hands and knees but there is no harm in that. The bottom of our feets are rough too from walking. Babies are more resilient than you think. If it's not bothering her than don't worry.

When my little guy started to crawl it was midsummer and he wanted to crawl on concrete in shorts and no shoes! He ended up with sores on the tops of his feet more than knees. I would just make sure she has pants and socks on when she crawls to keep her from getting too raw and sore. I wonder if kids learn to walk because of the crawling thing being a bit too uncomfortable! Don't make it too pleasent for her or she may never want to walk!

Good luck!

Knee pads are a good idea, but just so you know, both of my kids crawled over area rugs, and hardwood floors, without any protection, and it didn't phase them. Once they want to crawl, there is no stopping them regardless of the surface - my son even wanted to crawl on the concrete outside while his big sister was playing. Those little knees have extra cushion on them, I guess:).
