I have beautiful silk hangings that are framed.
I'd love to know more about what it means.
I had an appraiser that said it was good. I
think she meant good luck. Any clever ideas
how to get more specific information?
Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

You can take a photo of them, then using your smartphone or computer, do a reverse google image search. Google will basically search the internet for images that resemble the ones you've uploaded, and it's possible you'll see similar words, figures, etc. Here's a link to the reverse google image search process.

If your appraiser said nothing more than"good" I think I would look for a better appraiser! And I would ask questions.

Hit your city or county library. I'd be willing to bet they have books on Asian art, probably with great illustrations that you can use to compare images. Also, if you have an art museum near you, see if they have an Asian collection. In the write-ups by the paintings or ceramics, there will often be explanations of any symbols incorporated into the work. Museum volunteers or staff may be able to help you as well.

I don't know if you know any, but a tattoo artist may be able to help you, they usually have books on symbols.

Do you mean pictures, or that your artwork has writing on it?

There are many Eastern writing styles, and even formal vs informal versions of the same basic languages. What you need is someone fluent in the particular language used in your artwork to read it for you.

If an art appraiser said "good" I'd assume it referred to the quality of the art, not the language.
